The photographer that I really wanted was pricy, but she does AMAZING work and honestly, when I looked into other wedding photographers, I found out she wasn’t much more expensive than most other ones that do good work. I really value photos so I felt like that is what I wanted to put more of my budget into. The photographer we got is going to be just under $5000 which includes having her for the entire wedding, 1200 photos from the wedding, 50 artistic edits, and then also an engagement session with I think 100 or 150 photos with a bunch of artistic edits as well. I have had some friends get “cheap” photographers and their pictures have turned out washed out and awful.

SDBride28:  It’s going to vary by where you live and costs of living, but $3,500 in a major US city is average for a really good photographer. Think about it – it has to pay essentially for 1 – 1.5 week’s worth of wages and 35% of profits go to taxes. I paid $4,500 for mine

I am in NYC and we are paying $4,200 for the day with an assistant which I think is a good deal,  and he is an amazing photographer.   We are not doing engagement photos either due to the extra cost.

I had no idea how much photography was. I had several people recommended to me from my venue. 1 was around 2000 and she gave me one around 500 so I assumed that was the norm. Then I got to looking and oh my goodness…… One lady wanted 6500…thats the same price as my venue (including catering, cake, and flowers!) She made me feel like I was some horrible person for not wanting to spend that much….unless I didn’t care about pictures or memories…ugh….so I asked my coordinator and she suggested I not use anyone under 2000 unless they are just starting out and trying to make a name for themselves. I actually found a lady who was normally 4000 in her previous state but she just relocated to my state and was building up her business so she was around 1600 and I am very pleased. I had looked at some all inclusive that included photography and didn’t realize just how much is was….might have been cheaper to go that route! oh well, I am happy with what I have….oh and I’m in Atlanta

SDBride28:  I’m in Dallas, TX. Found that the price varied quite a bit.

We found a great photographer for $4,200 for 9 hours on the wedding day, engagement and bridal session, online gallery, thumb drive of the pics, print release, AND a $1650 print credit is included for albums, etc. Then we got a $300 discount because our venue recommended her and took off another $300 because we opted out of the bridal session.

Weather and her availability means we’re actually just now about to take engagement pictures this weekend and our wedding is a month from tomorrow (AH!). Can’t wait to see how her pics of us turn out!

We are paying $3200, which is after an $800 discount that we got since Fiance and I went to high school with our photographer. He is the absolute best photographer in the area and I am so excited that Fiance was not only willing to spend that much money, but suggested it. We are getting 10 hours of coverage with two photographers, an engagement session, 500 edited prints, print release, and a photo book.

SDBride28:  I think of all the things to splurge on for wedding,  photographer is at the top of the list. Those photos are all you have to remember the day and you want to make sure you get an excellent photographer . I live In NYC and I just booked an amazing photographer for 5000. This includes 2 hour engagement shot, 10 hour wedding coverage with an assistant and videographer . Besides the photo package magnet save the dates and thank you cards will be included . A 40 min DVD will be provided to us with edits and background songs of our choice to capture the day. I recommend you read reviews on various sites to make sure you’re in good hands .  We decused to splurge on photographer and skimp on other things such as flowers, invitations , and wedding favors .

SDBride28: I agree with TXbride2015 that prices vary quite a bit, and the averages really seem to depend on location, of course, but also the photog’s experience. I’m in LA and many were $5000+, but we were not willing to spend that much. Mid range seemed to be 2500-4500, and of course, you can always find a Craigslist photog for like $500 lol. We went with someone who has been in the business for 5 years now but her business is still growing, so we actually got her for around $1700, and it includes all day photography, second shooter, online gallery with edited pictures, an album, and a large canvas print. We also got an engagement shoot. We received our engagement pictures and are IN LOVE with them, so we are so excited to see what she’ll do for the wedding. We lucked out a bit since shortly after we booked her, the package we got went up around $500!

We’re paying $2,500 for one photographer for 8 hours of coverage, a wedding day photo book, bridal portraits, and a canvased 16×20 bridal picture of me of my choice to keep and display at the reception. He brought us sample books of individual weddings to look at that he shot by himself and also weddings that had a second shooter. His work looked equally beautiful and had the right amount of coverage just as much as the the weddings where there was a second photographer. I was getting teary eyed looking at his portfolio of weddings!

The package we got origonally included a second shooter, but the quality of his wedding day books floored us and we really, really, really wanted one after seeing them. That book alone would have cost $800, so he swapped out the second photographer to include the book in the package because we wanted it so badly but knew we couldn’t afford the price of it a la cart.

I think the area you are in will reflect the total price you can expect to pay. I live near a large city any the price ranges we looked at averaged around $3,000 for 6 to 8 hours of coverage and give and take “extras”. Packages always toed the line between hours of coverage and what was included in coverage. One photographer wanted $3,000 but would only guarantee a certain amount of edited images; we’d recieve everything but only select photos would be edited…if we wanted all images edited, add another $1,000. Personally I feel like the photographer we contracted is a steal. I’m beyond excited!

We are paying £1500 ($2200) for our photog, she is the best in our area and that covers 8 hours on the day and an engagement shoot, plus all the editing, digital copies and a fancy photo book 🙂
