I’m trying to come up with a budget for photography which includes save the dates, engagement pictures and wedding day pictures, but I have no idea what that usually runs. HELP!! Can anyone please tell me what their budget was and how you came up with that number….. Thanks so much!

It depends on your area. In DC, plan on around $3000. But some could be as low as $1500 and as high as $5000. Really depends on experience. Since you are in LA, I would think the prices would be similar. Check out the web site wppa.org I think. Find some photographers whose style you like and see what their web site says. Keep in mind if you are off season or on an less used day you may be able to negotiate.

I am paying 2500 for an album of 90 pics that I get to choose, 2 photographers ALL day unlimited, videography, a couple of 5×7’s and 8×10’s for the parents and a CD of ALL pics. Thats all I can remember now off the top of my head but there were freinds who paid $1700 for theirs because they were “up and coming” Being in the LA area you should be able to find PLENTY of those…I’d scout the colleges…

I’m paying $2,125 for an engagement session, 8 hrs. of wedding day coverage (2 photographers), thank-you cards and digital files for all pictures taken.
I’d say you’ll be anywhere from $1,500 to $4,000+. It all depends on what you want (hrs. of coverage, number of photographers, etc.).

I’m paying $1,000 for an engagement session, 8 hours of coverage, and the CD with all the photos and release. I got a pretty SWEET deal though, I’d say in the mid-west most photographers I looked at cost around $1,500-$2,000

Thank GOD I have many super talented friends who were willing to lend their services for cheap/free. I would most definitely have not enjoyed the wedding experience without them. As for photography, my sister in law’s sister (husband’s brother’s wife’s sister) happens to be an extremely talented wedding photographer and, even though she didn’t know me when I first asked her about doing my wedding, she considered me family and offered me a significant discount on her services. My suggestion is to scout out your friends and friends of friends to maybe get discounted services. If not discounted, at least you can feel good knowing who you’re money is going to!

Our photography budget was 15% of our total budget. We got e-pics, a photo guestbook, 2 photographers and all day coverage, a faux-to-booth, CD with copyright, edited photos, prints and an album.

Since we can never get this moment back, photography and videography are one of the things my finance & I will splurge on. For photography, it’s around $3500 (off peak season), and another $2,500 for videography. We looked around, negotiated, and decided to go w/ the ones we felt are most talented.

We ended up getting a great deal on our photographer but we were looking at dropping around $1700-2000. I think in your area it’s likely that you’ll be looking at around $2500-3000.

@neasy12: Hi there, we’re paying a little over 5k in photography, and that doesn’t include additional prints outside of an album with 20 pictures. I wanted to splurge on photography, so I didn’t worry too much about the budget there and just went with the person I liked. But I think that’s a little on the high end in Chicago….I think you could find great photogs for around 3-4k.

We’re looking at around $1800 to $2300. We have settled on a photographer but we havent settled on a package yet! Its about 15% of our budget in the Austin area!

We are paying $4500 for ours in Charlotte, NC. That is for an engagement session, unlimited coverage, two photographers, and unlimited access and rights to our pictures. There are other things, but I don’t remember. I know it is on the high end, but they have won multiple awards, and I am willing to put the money into the photography.
