So I put a deposit down with a photographer a few months back… He also does videography & showed us both when we met with him. I asked if he could do both, and he said that he couldnt fully do both, so we agreed on him being the photog & then shooting possibly a little video to make a highlight film for us as well for 500$ extra. So anyways, the more I look at his work, the less I love it… I just think his photography has some great shots, and some I really dislike… I am doubting my choice & scared to commit to the total of 3k. My contract says that if the remainder amount isnt paid, I can use the deposit for any kind of shoot with him in the future.
So what do I do bees? I found another photog I love A LOT more, and contacted her and she is available for my date. How/What do I email my orignal photog and how do I explain the situation? Should I even switch photogs? Or should I just stick with the original plan?? Im lost… HELP!!!

I’m in a very similiar situation. I paid the deposit on a really nice photographer. But I’ve started to doubt him more and more. The new photographer I found said she’s available on our date and her photos are so incredible that I want to hang strangers pictures on my wall. As soon as we sign with her, we are going to call the other photogs and cancel them. And we can’t even get the deposit back.
I feel really bad because out initial photogs are great people, and they were a lot cheaper. But in the end I think we want someone that would deliver our important day in a style we love. (I’m dreading the contact with the initial photogs though, so awkward…)

you don’t love his photography, but do you like his videography? Maybe you could use the deposit toward a full video, and then hire the new company for photography.

@Ashuen: Im so conflicted… How much of a deposit are you losing? I wanted to maybe tell him that I like his video work more & see if I could put my 1k towards videography he offers, but Idk what he will say….:/

@Ellyson: Yes, his videography is great… he puts it to music and Its beautiful… I just think all of his photos are instragram looking — ALL OF THEM. Hes also into photojournalism, which I like, BUT the weddings he showed us were literally like 5 pics of the groom/bride together and none were looking at the camera… Just seemed like he misses great shots I want..

Well I don’t see how he could have a problem with your deposit going to video instead. I’m sure it will work out, and you’ll have lovely pictures AND a video to boot!

@Barbiestylez: I’m losing 800
. But 20 years later, that is gonna matter less. (My Fiance and Future Mother-In-Law aren’t helping. My Future Mother-In-Law hated her wedding photos, she won’t even show them to us!). And at least you might get videography! I think asking is a good way to go.

@Ellyson: My only fear is him saying video would be 2500$ and then my new photog is like 3000 — so it doubles my cost really:( Im hoping he will do video for the 1k I paid, but Idk if he will…

You’ll be out a lot more than 1k if you don’t end up with photos of your wedding day that you love.

are you going to ask him? There’s only one way to find out what he’ll say!

@Barbiestylez: has he given you access to full galleries, or are you just seeing highlights/ blog posts?
It’s possible he gets the whole range, but advertises/ posts the most different non-classic ones…

@Barbiestylez: can you use him as your videographer instead so you dont have to forfeit the deposit and then get the photographer you love?
