Hi Bees!
So I know most of the time when other bees post about their budget photography everyone always says you need to spend the extra money and basically that it will be a disaster, which can be the case!! If you dont do your research! I had a $10,000 budget for my wedding and I came in just under $5000 and used the other half for an amazing honeymoon (full recap and costs in a post to come!) I just wanted to share a positive experience with a photographer that didnt cost me thousands of dollars, It was $500 but as a test we did an engagement shoot ($50) but the $500 package came with an engagement shoot and we decided to use that for my bridal shower, Ill share a few pictures from each of the events!

They did a great job! We also used an inexpensive photographer ($1000 for 6 hours and 2 photographers) and absolutely love our photos and get compliments on them all the time.
Just a couple pictures I love:

The budget for our entire wedding was $5000, so we couldn’t afford to spend the bulk of that on a photographer. We contacted the photography department at the cal university and foundseveral students interested in photographing our wedding. We chose one who had not done any weddings before, but whose work we were impressed with. We paid her $300. We knew we were taking a chance, but it was worth it to us to give her the opportunity to build her portfolio. If the pictures turned out horribly, we still got married, which is all that really matters. We were happy with her photos and we had a friend who surprised us by also showing up with his camera and serving as a second photographer. We were blessed with two photographers with different styles for only $300!

jnd224 : Wow what a great story! I am so glad that it worked out for you! I agree, at the end of the day we were still married and I wanted great pictures, but It just wasnt in the budget to spend thousands, I hoped sharing some of these stories could help other bees see that it didnt have to be a disaster if they didnt spend thousands!

futuremrsvezina : I’m totally with you on that. I was reading the thread where someone spent about $3000 on photography (if I remember correctly) and people were saying how in big cities, that’s on the lower end of what you could expect to pay. I was in awe!
My wedding scenario was a little different, as we only needed photography for a couple hours, but we got the most amazing photos for a few hundred dollars. I used Thumbtack to explain exactly what I needed and got so many reasonable quotes from photographers with great portfolios. My husband and I couldn’t be happier with our photos and still get so many compliments on them.

All those pics look great to me. Our photographer is $550 for half day or $1000 for the whole day, we chose whole day and have seen her portfolio and love all of it. She is only in the biz 3 years when we signed up with her and she said she will be increasing her prices in year 4 or 5. That fee only includes the photography and editing, amd all picks on a USB drive, no prints or books as we plan on doing it ourselves after the wedding.

ana2017 : Ours also didnt invlude prints, but we had the rights to all the photos as well and just printed them ourselves, I like it better that way anyways because you can generally get prints much cheaper than the photographer charges!

ana2017 : Our photographer has also mentioned that her prices will get higher in the future, when she gets more expeirnce etc, she received quite a few new clients after our wedding and her work just keeps getting better, shes our go to for all family photos in the future and has promised to keep us at her low rates!

futuremrsvezina :
Congrats! Everything looks beautiful and I’m always so envious when Brides spend a reasonable amount of money on their weddings.
