So, I found a photographer willing to meet my needs! i wanted to edit my own pics(i too am a photographer) i need her for most of the day before and during the ceremony, however no reception shots are needed. I told her my budget was 500. As a photographer I charge 400$ for this service of unedited photos…is this a good jumping off point?

Sounds pretty reasonable, since you don’t have to pay her for post processing time. I guess it would more depend on how high profile/established she is vs you to understand if that’s truly fair. But in general, that sounds pretty good.

oooh, me too! I am probably the worst client ever – I am a photograper (high fashion/editorial stuff etc) and I have been EVIL with the photographers I have met in making sure it’s done my way!
We are paying a similar amount for a whole day up until the first dance. Make sure you get written confirmation before the wedding that they are giving you the copyright to the photos though as otherwise they will own the copyright and could refuse to let you have them unedited! (my photographer is letting me have full copyright but i’ve had to agree to letting him veto the photos before he sends the final images to me!)

@doobedoo:
i have a written contract(that i have drawn up) that states the pics are mine, however she can edit them for her own advertising, kind of a win, win for all. She is new to photography but has an amazing eye and is super excited about it. I have interviewed at least 15 photographers and they want anywhere from 1500-4000$. I can’t imagine charing or even paying that much in Billings, Montana. The cool part is that I recomended her to a couple friends and she gave us a free family session for their bookings!
