Ok y’ll. The man did things out of order, he got me a wedding band for engagement. Mostly becasue the lady at shane co convinced him to spend engagement ring prices on a wedding band…sigh. I love it, but it is not anything kind of like what I wanted, expected, showed him, emailed him, etc.
I was going to reset my grandmother’s sapphire, and my mom offered to pay for the resetting as a gift. Well, as it turns out, once they took it out of the original setting, it turns out its not real. Now, it’s still lovely, but in my mind not worth the cost of resetting it.
So mom says instead I can get whatever I want for comperable value. I found two VERY different rings that I LOVE LOVE LOVE.
They are both right around the same price…
One is super HUGE and super flashy, one is smaller and classier. I love them both. Keep in mind the pear shaped one didn’t have a stone so we just stuck one in there for trying on.
So whaddya think?

Definitely the pear. It’s beautiful. The second ring looks too costumey.

Please forgive the horrible nails, btw! I’m overdue for a manicure

The smaller one would be okay for everyday wear, the larger one, not so much.

I looooooove that pair shaped one! GORGEOUS from what I can tell!
The second one is gorgeous as well but I would be afraid it would get in the way & I could never wear it.

I agree with PPs – the pear shaped ring is more suitable for everyday wear. They are both beautiful, but I can see the big one getting damaged easily (scratched, chipped, etc.).

I’m all for big bling, but I think the second one is too big and the first one not big enough.
Not sure what your budget is, but here’s an oval shaped beauty for $249 that looks to be in between the size of the pear and the rectangle: http://www.jtv.com/Cor-de-rosa-Morganite-2.40ct-Oval-With-Diamond-.10ctw-Round-10k-Rose-Gold-Ring/1214544,default,pd.html
They’ve also got a huge selection of other morganite rings, including some pears and radiants.

@inspiredcreations: I kind of agree with you there-I think the pear is not quite big enough, and the other a touch too big. The big un was the size of the sapphire that wasn’t, so I guess I started thinking big…now I guess I need to decide which way to go.
To be fair, I think mom wants to buy from her jeweler…

@thelawwon: Understandable; you could always find the loose stone online in the appropriate size and then your mom’s jeweler will have something to work with and can either find or make an appropriate setting. I’m guessing that 12×10 would be a good size center stone on your finger.
Here’s a search page for various morganite cuts/sizes on JTV (I’ve purchased loose stones from them and regular jewelry and am a happy customer): http://www.jtv.com/Gemstone/1,default,sc.html?prefn1=A_GEM_STONE&prefv1=Morganite

I like the bigger one. But both are nice.

I would pick the pear (heh) .. it’s pretty, sparkly and it looks amazing!!

Thanks so much bees! I didn’t think this would be a super tough choice, as they are sooooo different.
I’ve attached a side by side, and a side view of each… sorry for all the pics! I tried to make them smaller

@inspiredcreations: I agree. I don’t think the pear is quite large enough (for my taste), but the second one is very large.
If it were me, I would choose the larger ring if these two were my only options because I know shrinking ring syndrome is real. You may wish you had gone bigger, especially since you’re already considering that option. I do love the shape/look of the pear though. Is there a larger version of this?
