We found a venue this weekend and are putting a deposit on our date of July 19. 2014 today. At midnigt when are reception is wrapping up it will actually be the one year anniversary of getting engaged!
Other then the venue what do I need to do right now? It seems so far away, I don’t want to jump the gun! I have an appt to go dress shopping middle of next month. When do I ask my bridesmaids? How far in advance should I send out save the dates? I’ve seen conflicting information on this. The location is about 2 1/2 hours away from where we live, so it will be a mini destination and I think most people will probably sleep there…
I’m excited to plan with you guys!

So it’s less than a year away? It may seem like a long time, but it’s really not. I asked my bridesmaids a few weeks after I got engaged. I started looking at dresses right away. (I bought mine in January, and it still hasn’t come in.) I sent my Save-The-Date Cards nine months before the wedding date – like yours, a pseudo-destination wedding for a lot of people. Things you should start thinking about right away because they book quickly:
Caterer (if not included in venue)
Ceremony Site (if not at venue)

@kl1987: Definitely book your photographer, DJ, and caterer ASAP because those are the big vendors that can book up a year in advance so if you want the most options or the best chance of getting the good ones, research and book them ASAP.

I got engaged April 2013 and we set our date for Jul 5, 2014. I was surprised with how many vendors started booking up quickly! We had the important things booked within about 2 months after we got engaged- DJ, photographer, officiant, etc. The only big thing we have to do is florist, and we’ve found one, just have to give them our deposit. I would say to start booking appointments and meeting with people! Make sure you read a lot of reviews online first! 🙂
