Hi Guys,
I picked a really simple short dress (beach wedding!) because it suited me perfectly and I love it a lot. But now I’m looking at bridesmaid dresses and they’re all so fancy! I know that I won’t look like an extravagent bride with my dress, and I’m ok with that. But I don’t want to look underdressed standing next to my bridesmaids.
Here’s my dress

Am I being paranoid about all this? If they wear a short colored dress will I still stand out?

I think that if you shop for Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses at “normal” stores instead of at bridal stores you’ll have lots of luck finding appropriate dresses that aren’t more dressy than yours.
I think it makes sense that you don’t want to look underdressed at your own wedding and I think your maids will be happy to wear a more comfortable, less formal dress.

cbgg : That’s a very good point. I for some reason hadn’t considered looking other than bridal stores! I think if I accessorise myself more I might feel better too.
I’ve been waffling over if I should do a veil or tiara or something so I guess I’ll just have to look into that more.

cbgg : I agree that you should shop at regular store for bridesmaid dresses! Try Macy’s!

If it’s a beach wedding, maybe they could wear solid colored maxi dresses from any regular store, (your dress being shorter and lacy would help you stand out), or solid cotton dresses the same length as yours.
I bought all my bridesmaids dresses for $30 each at Maurice’s, cotton, just above knee, solid green.

Definitely try “normal” stores instead of wedding shops. It’ll open up a ton of less formal options.

I think Jcrew has some nice, less than totally formal dresses.

rinnerrabbit :
Not a veil and definitely not a tiara! with that lovely little dress . Maybe some flowers or a pearl/lace headpiece ?

Yeah the dress is adorable and if you love it that’s all that matters. I agree 100% though with
elderbee : that a veil or tiara simply wouldn’t go with the formality of that dress. I would suggest looking into birdcage veils thoughs or a fabulous fascinator or flowers if you wanted to round out your look.
Otherwise, a chiffon short bridesmaid dress from David’s would be fine or just buying a simple one from a department store would be easy as well- how many girls do you have?

I did those infinity dresses. Super simple, cheap. For the most part everyone was happy with them.

You do not have to worry about the bridesmaids dresses beingnicer as long as their dresses match the formality of your wedding. No one will outshine the bride because the bride naturally will stand out. I think a shoulder length veil (or a veil slightly longer than your hair if you will wear your hair down) would be very cute with that dres and would help dress it up a bit. Choose Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses that have the same length hem as your dress or shorter. Choose fabric types that compliment your dress rather than contrast to it and go bold in color for the Bridesmaid or Best Man

try a solid color plain dress. I personally think bridesmaid dresses look nicer plain tbh. Also you could wear a short veil , more jewellery and have a bigger bouquet than them perhaps?

Rather than look for bridesmaid dresses I would look into typical sun dresses for your BM’s. Your look is casual so keep theirs casual as well.

I bought my dresses from a regular store instead of a bridal store as well! I used ASOS, its a UK store but ships for free internationally 🙂 really great for budget options as well!
