I finally decided on my dress after trying on way to many. I’m getting Maggie Sotteros Geneva!!
I’m going to purchase it in a few weeks and I was looking at size charts to see what size I would be. In the store I tried on a 12 and the lacing in the back was really close together I want it wider apart, the top was also huge on me. So overall I knew the dress size was too big.
The store I am getting it from takes measurements and advised brides on a size but in the end the make the bride pick to take liability from them, which I completely understand.
So here is my question: Bust and Waist I am a perfect 8 according to the size chart, however my hips I am a 10. The hips on the dress are not very fitted so that makes me wonder if I should get the 8 because I wouldnt have to have as many alterations done, or should I just get the 10 and then know that I would have to have the top taken in. Which one should I get??

i voted 10 because you want the corset in a nice “V” shape, or at least the same width all the way down… i’m worried if you get the 8, it’ll be a pretty “V” going from your bust to your waist, but then it might bulge open/pull wider where it comes over your hips… not a flattering look, to say the least… it’s always easier to take in a dress and get the “V” than to let it out! i’d be safe and get the 10!!!

@anotheroneofmany: I hadn’t thought about that I had more thought since there is a corset it should fit easily but I do like the V look which the sample sort of had just too small of a V I want it wider at the top. I had been leaning toward the 10 I was just a little worried about the cost of alterations if I needed the top taken in so much. Thanks so much!

I don’t understand why the salon is not helping you more with this decision… will they be doing any alterations? I’d be wary of anyone who would expect me to make the size choice and then handle the alterations. If they alter, they should have enough experience to advise you on the size choice.
That said… I think you have to fit the largest part of your body and alter down from there.
best of luck… you look beautiful!

@jjmomma: They do alterations there and the seamstress is the one that takes all the measurements and makes the reccomendations on which size to order but they say that at the end of the appt it is still up to the bride. I guess they had a problem with a bride who said she would lose a certain amount of weight and therefore wanted to order a smaller size and they said ok and she never lost the weight and flipped out on the store when the dress didnt fit her. Not their fault at all, so they just make sure they tell brides its their choice what size to order.
