So this is my first post here and Im so sad that its not one with utter joy and excitment!! I fell so sad and not knowing what to do!! So let me tell you about my dress: It was the first one I tried on and I knew it was the one!!! It is a fit and flare dress so its in between a mermaid and an A-line dress…when I tried on the sample size they had they only had a size 12.. which didnt zip up all the way but only becasue my back is wide at the top… the rest of the fit was a bit too snug so I knew it would have to be ordered in a bigger size. The consultant took my measurements and she said that based on my measurements, I needed a size 16! all who were with me questioned her on that size but she insisted that it would be perfect and probably just have to be taken in a bit… so a size 16 was ordered… I went last night for my first fitting. When I tried on the dress It didnt look at all what It looked like when I tried it on the first time!!! i KNOW IT WOULD BE BIG BUT IT WAS REALLY BIG!! iT LOOKED NOTHING LKE THE SAME DRESS!! the dress now looked like a complete A-line dress… So I asked the seamstress if ti would be taken in all the way down tothe hips to look like a fit and flare dress the way its supposed to fit. Her answer made me cry! she said thaty they dont do the alterations all the way dont becasue it is too much work to do that and that no other seamstress would do that either becasue Of how complicaing it would be. The consultant then added ” well you signed off on the size that was ordered) like I was suppoed to know that ordereing 2 sizes bigger would alter the complete look on the dress!! thet are the experts in this!!??? any ways, tHE Y TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO TAKE IT IN BUT NOT THE WAY i WANTED TOO… They know that a size 14 would be perfect and possible just have to be taken in a bit but they said they will not order another dress.. I WENT HOME CRYING THE WHOLE WAY… I dont know what to do but I am not happy.. please help!

I think you need to go back in and talk with a manager, they should order you the size 14 and have it rushed. If they won’t take your dress from that store and speak with another seamstress, they can do pretty amazing things. Good luck!

I’d talk to a local seamstress and ask how long it would take and how much it would cost to have your dress altered. It shouldn’t be impossible, and it’s very rude of the consultant to tell you that no one will help you–esp. when it’s probably not true.

i would def try escalating to a manager but if that doesnt work i would find a seamstress that will do the work – there IS a seamstress out there that will do it….i do not believe a seamstress (whose job it is to alter clothing) would refuse to do the work because its “too hard” – either way i wouldnt want their seemstress working on my dress at this point if she is complaining about difficulty. ITS HER JOB!

If you can’t get them to fix the ordering mistake I would talk to another seamstress and take your dress to someone willing to work.

omigoodness… poor you….
Definitely talk to the manager about reordering the dress in a 14!
If not, there is definitely a seamstress who can alter it for you so that it fits perfectly. I have a friend who is a size 2 and she bought a size 10 wedding gown off the rack and had a seamstress alter it to fit her body. She looked wonderful on her wedding day, so if that’s possible, then I think your dress should be no problems for any seamstress!!

I honestly wouldn’t even feel comfortable having this company do the work on your dress just based on their answer. Your dress can absolutely be altered to fit you perfectly. I had a similar bad experience with David’s Bridal. Take it to another seamstress and hang in there hun! Everything will be fine!

Thank you so much for your support and advice….. I am just so overwhelmed with emotions about this! I feel like crying every two minutes.. my mom and stb mom in law are going on saturday with me back to the store to talk with a manager… I just had a vision of how the dress would look on and now it dosnt look like it at all and I feel like these people are ruining a moment in which I should be loving.. Its funny how on the bottom of their receipts it reads: ” our staff will assist in determining your size, but you, the customer are ultimately responsible for the size we order” So basically they are teling me that they dont know anything about sizing, they will just tell you a size and if its wrong its my fault for agreeing with the size that they chose based on measurements. I the customer am klooking to them for a perfect fit since i HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT WEDDING DRESS SIZES!!!… I FEEL LIE CRYING RIGHT ABOUT NOW AGAIN… 🙁

Like other bees have suggested I’d demand to see the manager and show her what you mean. I’d also ask them to pull the sample so you can compare. If they don’t help you come up with a conculsion you’re happy with, take it to a professional seamstress. They will certainly be able to get you the look you want. That’s crazy! Sorry you have to deal with this!!

You can definitely get your dress to look how you imagine it! Either confront the shop about reordering the 14 or find a seamstress to alter it for you- I can’t believe they told you no one would do the work!
I do hate how they put on the bottom as a disclaimer, “our staff will assist in determining your size, but you, the customer are ultimately responsible for the size we order” I mean, how many brides have experience ordering a wedding dress before? Not many! And they give the the contract AFTER you’ve decided to purchase the dress and put down the size, etc. I regret letting them order a size up because my bust measurement was 1/2 inch over the smaller size. I was in a strapless bra! grr

From my experience I hated the seamstress that the dress store used. She refused to take the dress in at certain places because it was too much work. And she stiched my bustle (that had to be redone 3 times) all the way though all the linings so my dress was all jacked up the day before the wedding. My mom and dad had to undo the stitches and fix the bustle. And I paid a TON for the alterations because she’s the “store’s seamstress.” I would talk to the manager, but other wise I’d get my money back for alterations and find someone else.

Thank you ladies…. I spoke with the store manager and she wants me to come in to talk to her and show her the dress and im going to try on the sample size again so she could see the difference…. Ive showed people the pics of me in both sizes and the reaction Ive been getting is that they are two different dresses So i know im not going crazy… there is a big difference. But I want to be positive about how this is going to be fixed….
