I mostly researched photographers online.

I would never have found the photographer we ended up hiring except that she was also a client of my hairdresser. I’ve been going to the same lady for my hair for 5 or 6 years now and when I told her I was trying to find a photographer, she was like, “Omg I have this client, she is totally your style, blah blah blah.”

After looking up her portfolio I *knew* she was the one. After a few e-mail exchanges with her I didn’t even bother contacting anyone else.

Meet with his in person.  That will solidify your decision either way.

@BeachBride2014:  Ask to see 2-3 actual albums (they can be digital) from other weddings.  Every picture does not have to be amazing but you want to see some prints that are worth framing in the albums (a good rule of thumb is to see 1 great frameable shot for every 20-30 pictures or a complete album of at least 20-30 good to great pictures.)  You don’t want to just see a single album with their greatest hits which are 1-2 shots from over a dozen different weddings.

You are looking for composition and proper use of lighting.  Everything else will depend on what decor from your wedding your photographer has to work with for shots.

And good rapport is always important because a majority of your day will be spent with your photographer.  From getting ready to the final getaway shot, you should be comfortable spending time with your photographer.

@BeachBride2014:   Most definitely.  Most great photographers WANT to meet you before hand to make sure they’re comfortable with you as a couple as well.

Definitely meet! That’s what sealed the deal for us.

I would meet with a photographer before booking. I HAD to feel completely comfortable being around them. The photographer is going to be there for many intimate moments and you need to be sure to be okay with that.

Also. I asked to see a complete wedding. Any photographer can pick a couple awesome shots (im not a photographer and have gotten lucky with some awesome shots myself), but I wanted to see what he captured over the day. All the photographers were very accomodating to my requests.

@BeachBride2014:  A ha ha.

Nope, she’s based out of Florida, but her website says that she is available worldwide. 😛
