- Wedding: August 2013
Fiance and I live 8000 miles away from our wedding. Of course that makes planning tricky, and we need help — both a local contact, and we need financial help. Fortunately his mom has stepped in and said she wants to help us out. Awesome!
However… her taste… is not our taste.
The fact is that without help, we have to elope. Nobody wants that. Well… I’d be OK with it, actually, but everyone else is pretty dead set against it. We don’t have money for anything other than that, though, so it’s help or no party. Turning down the money is a worst case scenario and would definitely cause hurt feelings.
She won’t put a deposit down without visiting a place, even though we’re OK with doing so so as not to inconvenience her. She insists on visits. Fine. Problem is, she’s “forgetting” to visit all the places we love, and instead going to country clubs and golf courses. All the overt opulence of these places — ballrooms with patterned carpets (in another post you can tell I have a THING about carpets haha) and gold trim and glittering chandliers… it’s lovely, for someone else.
It’s just not us.
We want something a little more modern and laid back, and we’re having a really hard time redirecting her attention to what WE like without being like “your taste sucks.”
So that was 30% vent, 30% request for advice, and 40% feel free to commiserate if other people are making your venue selection harder.
