    I vote jamaica because I personally found it nicer than mexico. Just my humble opinion, though.

    I’ve been to both Sandals and Secrets Maroma and it’s no question, hands down Secrets is way better than Sandals.

    Don’t get me wrong, Sandals was very nice and I had a great time there.  But Secrets is in another league.  Everything is so much nicer and more elegant there.  Nothing is cheesy or campy.  The property is beautiful, the beach is amazing and the staff is the best.  No language barrier at all.  And there’s ton to do in that area.  Lots of activities and excursions.  I can’t believe that Secrets is actually cheaper than Sandals.  But yeah, cannot say it enough, Secrets is the way to go.

    The ONLY thing that Sandals had on Secrets is that scuba diving was an included activity at the resort, (as was snorkling).  They taught you how and took you out on a boat to a nice spot.  (this was not in Jamaica though, it was St. Lucia).  At Secrets they didn’t have these options and we had to go through another company to go snorkling and diving.

    Go with your gut if its holding you back from booking because you dont think you guys will ever get the chance to or decide to go to the caribbean again go with that.

    @Willow1991:There are always tons of deals on the caribbean because they are such a popular and common vacation destination for people living in the US.  They’re close and usually fairly cheap.

    Also I’m sorry to say that Jamaica is just not that nice. In fact it’s extremely poverty stricken and feels very unsafe. You won’t even leave the resort. If you really want to go to the caribbean, look into other islands like St. Martin, St. John, St. Lucia, Martinique, etc.

    We were at Secrets Maroma Beach a month ago on our 8 night honeymoon…and it was AMAZING!!! I highly recommend it..no language barrier, the staff there is incredible – they truly work so hard to make sure your stay is nothing less than amazing.  The whole resort is beautiful and the beach is even more beautiful!  The pools and swim up bar were the best .. restaurants and food were wonderful.  We already want to go back!

    Secrets… your money will go further… that’s why we chose it 🙂  We were thinking either Secrets Maroma or Sandals Grande St. Lucian, but we were getting SO MUCH more at Secrets and a swim out suite for the price of a plain room in St. Lucia… plus the beach is rated amazing at Maroma… I was a little hesitant to go to “Mexico”, but the reviews on trip advisor and swim up suite had me sold….

    I’ve never been to either hotel but I’ve stayed in each country. I prefer mexico so I vote maroma.

    @Willow1991:

    We really are the same 😉  My Fiance said the same thing, but I convinced him.  I told him we’d be spending like $8000 to get a similar experience in a sandals, so he understood and let me book Mayan Riviera.  He’s still not thrilled about telling people we’re going to Mexico for our honeymoon, but I know he will appreciate it once we are there.  I actually found out about Secrets Maroma from the bee, and I’m so glad that I did.

    To me, an all-inclusive beach vacation is an all-inclusive beach vacation, and the resort & beach experience is much more important to me than being able to say we went to some other exotic place, but not as nice an experience… if that makes sense.
