I think pickups are just something you either love or hate. I tried one on and felt like a giant white comforter.

To me, the resemble bed comforters or curtians that toppled over you and got stuck halfway down.

Either you like them, or you don’t.

I don’t hate them on others, but I wouldn’t choose a pick-up skirt for myself simply because I like very clean lines for the skirt. They feel fussy to me. There are also better and worse ways to do pick-ups. I’ve seen some dresses that I liked a lot even though the skirt had pick-ups, and I’ve seen others I would never go near. As long as the pick-ups still look like they belong on a wedding gown and not on a cheap prom dress, I don’t have an issue with them. I’m sure your dress is beautiful!

@mepayne:  +1 to all of this. Definitely a love or hate thing. And they totally remind me f comforters, unfortunately.

For me, pick-ups look too busy and poofy and remind me of prom. I like simple, sleek skirts. But that’s just me. There are obviously tons of girls that love pickups. So don’t stress about it.

And I agree about the bustling. But my solution was to just not have a train so I don’t have to worry about bustling.

I love the pickups in my dress!  I don’t care for skirts that are too flat and boring.

Yea, it feels like a comforter to me too.

I actually used to really like them. About 7-10 years ago I would have thought I’d definitely get a dress with pickups. But my tastes have changed a lot in in terms of fashion and now I just don’t particularly care for the look. I never associated it with a comforter lol, I think I just saw so many people wearing these types of dresses that it just turned me off. I think some of them can look really cheap and in general I think it will be really dated in photos. That being said a lot of today’s styles will be obviously dated so that alone isn’t the best reason of not liking them… I didn’t really realize the general dislike of them myself until I read some of the threads on here. Some people are really passionately against certain dresses, rings etc and it kind of makes me laugh 🙂

If you love it, rock it. I don’t get a lot of positive responses on my dress either. Its pretty simple and understated, which is the opposite of what most people seem to be going for these days. I think thats part of why I love it!

I think it depends on the dress too, and how the pickups are done.  I love my pickup dress!

I don’t think there’s really a reason. Some people just don’t like them. They’re not attractive to me at all. Different strokes!

I just don’t care for them, just like some people don’t care for lace. Obviously a lot of people like them, because otherwise they wouldn’t be on so many dresses!

I don’t mind the look on other people, it’s just not for me.  I think the fact that you see them mostly on ballgowns or full A lines, is a big factor for me.  I wanted my dress to be lightweight, without a large skirt, because I’m too clumsy for anything else.

@Mulan05:  I agree with the previous posters who mentioned that it’s just personal preference. I kind of look at general likes/dislikes when it comes to wedding related stuff (dresses, rings, color schemes, etc.) in the same way I look at general likes/dislikes when it comes to other random things like food, music, books, etc.  Everyone won’t like the same things just as they won’t dislike the same things.  Sometimes you can’t even explain why you feel strongly about something … You just do.

I personally don’t care for pickups, but I don’t really know why … They just don’t appeal to me.  This probably doesn’t help much, as it’s kind of a vague answer … But it’s the only one I’ve got right now.
