Nothing is unheard of in photography. You aren’t forced to do anything and the photographer will work with you to do whatever it is you want to do. If you find a good photographer they’ll still be able to capture great portrait shots during the reception without having to stop and pose any one.

You can definitely do that, essentially the only thing you are hurting by not doing a first look is your timeline.

We’re doing this.  We’re also hoping to take pictures with our parents before the ceremony so there’s one less thing to fit in afterwards.
