My ring upgrade came in yesterday! We were upgrading for quality, not size, but the new diamond does have a slightly bigger diameter. The backstory is that when my fiancé picked out my original engagement ring he focused exclusively on carat size instead of the other Cs. I loved the ring, but aspects of the center stone really bothered me. The original diamond was an EGL-I 1.02 ct good cut G SI1, but as many people know, EGL-I is known for really loose grading. It was more like a K/L color and I1 clarity in GIA standards. Also, although it was a carat, the poor quality cut made it face up the same size as a .8/.9 ct diamond at 6.2mm. I tried to love it but the color and poor cut really bugged me. The practical part of me was frustrated that for what he paid he could have bought a great quality .8 ct diamond instead of a poor quality 1 carat that looked like a .8 ct. I talked to him about how I felt and he said we could upgrade the quality if it was important to me. Luckily the jeweler has a 100% upgrade policy, so we were able to trade in the old stone and deduct the price of the old one from the price of the new one. I paid the difference, but thought that was totally fair. I’m the breadwinner and in four months it’s going to be “our” money anyway.
The new diamond is GIA 1.08 ct I VS2 XXX HCA .8 and the diameter is 6.6mm. My ring is Tacori so the jeweler had to send the ring and diamond to Tacori to be set to keep the Tacori warranty intact. It was gone for a month! I missed it so much! I also ordered my wedding band from Tacori and it was sent back with my engagement ring. I am SO thrilled with the results. The cut is phenomenal. Holy crap it is so white, bright and sparkly! Also, I can definitely see the size difference. Without further ado, here are before and after pictures! Unfortunately it’s cloudy so no sun pictures yet!
