I’ve heard of a wedding that served pie before. No one (who i spoke with) was impressed apparently. But if most of your family prefer pie over cake, then why not.

Can you have both? We had a variety of desserts for our wedding, something for everyone.

Agree with PP above.  If it’s in your budget, can you do both pie and cake?

We’re doing this, but we are also buying a cake from Costco (local warehouse store with great cake!) for our guests who like cake better. On our RSVPs, we have the guest choose their favorite pie so we can gage the number to buy, and cake is an option.

I’m in the same situation as you. I’m more into cheesecake than regular cake (like, I LOVE cheesecake and cake is just okay), so we’re doing cheesecakes for our wedding, while also getting a small cake in case people don’t like cheesecake.

futuremardinly :  I’m doing pie instead of cake. Fiance is celiac, so cake is just a no for us. My sister also did pie instead of cake, and it was a hit! Everyone ate almost all the pies…whereas all the weddings I’ve been to had TONS of cake leftover. Plus, with pies you can get a lot of different flavors. Just make sure to have a variety…fruit pies, cream/mouse pies, etc. #TeamPie!

I’ve been to two weddings where they had pies instead of cake.  Everyone (including Darling Husband & myself) seemed to enjoy them.  I think it’s another area where you can make your wedding your own and a bit different from a lot of others.

I had pie and ice cream at my wedding, no cake at all. We got tons of compliments on them and no one came up demanding cake, so it’s a win in my book. We figured if people didn’t like pie, they probably liked ice cream at least. Do what makes you happy!

I’m doing Key Lime Pie for a Florida wedding 🙂 Life is short.  If you like pie, then serve pie.

I went to one. I am actually not a big pie person but this pie was EXCELLENT. I say have what you want. No one minded. I don’t think people care that much about cake anyway – wedding cakes are often hit or miss and I’m usually dancing by then anyway. I think it’s more and more common not to have them these days so do what you want!

futuremardinly :  I went to a wedding where the bride, a dear friend, was all about pie. I was actually disappointed there was cake. I love pie and other than cake desserts for weddings. It really makes it a couple’s own. 🙂

futuremardinly :  I haven’t been to a wedding where there was just pie & no cake, but personally I would love it! I’m just not a fan of all the sugary-ness in a cake & usually end up tossing out all the icing & eating around it… I would just make sure to do a vairety of pies (my favorites are key lime pies; cheesecakes made with sour cream- not quite as rich; apple pie), and maybe have some toppings for those that might want it a lil sweeter (like whip cream, ice cream)

Nobody ever says it’s a bad idea to serve just cake because some guests might not like it (even though we all know some people aren’t cake people). So I don’t see how it’s any issue to just serve pie when some people might not like it. Serve what you want! I love pie and would be super excited to have it at a wedding.

ETA: I also agree it goes way better with a BBQ dinner!
