I think ours ended up as 3 per person, which sounded low to me but it worked out fine. We did passed apps, though, so I’m not sure if that makes a difference. The bar was open then too, so most people were more after drinks than food! Will drinks be served during your cocktail hour, too?

PS we also had mini grilled cheeses and tomato soup shooters, and they were a HUGE hit–people still tell me how they loved them!

@sportsgal31:  I remember being worried that it wasn’t enough food, but it definitely seemed like there was more of a beeline for the bar (from what I heard–we were doing photos!) because people wanted drinks. I think we did run out of some things by the end of cocktail hour but no one seemed to mind.

There hasn’t been tons of food at most cocktail hours I’ve been to…I think as long as it’s not a huge gap between the ceremony end and the start of dinner, people can be okay with just a few bites to tide them over!

Sounds low to me, too.  Especially since you have 5 different apps, people will want to try everything.  I would.  I agree with @Ms. Meowerson that the best wedding food is at cocktail hour.

Especially with the open bar, I think you need to make sure there is substantial food!

They do this for a living and I don’t, but I still have my doubts.  People are hungriest at cocktail hour.  The best food is at cocktail hour.  People will be drinking.  With 5 different apps, all of which sound like crowd pleasers, I see people wanting to try more than 2-3 of them.

… Maybe I’m a gluttonous cow, but I definitely want more than 2 bites at cocktail hour.

I generally say to trust the professionals, but I usually have at least 1 of everything. Maybe you could scale back the cheese plate and up the other stuff (which will probably be more popular anyway).

@Mrs. Meowerson:  Yup, me too!  Clearly we are both fatties.  🙂
