I was on the pill for about 7 years before I switched to the Nuva Ring, however my reason for switching was because I hated taking a pill every day! I really, really liked it! It is super super easy once you get the hang of inserting it.

I really liked the Nuva Ring but it freaked out my fiance. He claimed he could feel it…I didn’t believe him at first so I tested it out by taking it out without him knowing and he made a comment that he didn’t feel it that time (he thought his sensitivity to it was down or something).  However, not to be Too Much Information…but he’s uncircumsized so he’s probably more sensitive anyway, than circumsized guys would be.

I ended up switching back to the pill because I didn’t like taking it out for sex! 🙂

As far as side effects, I didn’t notice any at all with the Nuva Ring.

I had a horrible nuva ring experience! It fell out, and after having it for 8 hours I got a major hot flash and anxious so I took it out. Much worse reaction than the pill. I agree about them though, they all make you feel bad.

I have a friend who had a ton of problems with the pill, and she loves the nuva ring.  She did sleep with one very well-endowed guy where it was uncomfortable and she had to take it out beforehand (which is fine to do).  But other than him, she hasn’t had any other problems (and she’s been with other guys as well).  So I say go for it, and if you hate it, you can always try something else.

I was always bad about taking my pills, so I wanted something different. My friend and my semi-SIL both tried NuvaRing and had bad experiences.

At the moment, Im swaying towards doing Implanon. Said friend who was on NuvaRing is in nursing school and said her teacher (who is a gyno) said its really the best on the market at the moment. When I talked ot my doctor, she told me the same thing.

I went from taking the pill for about 8 years to the ring, and I love it!!  Hubs can feel it every once in a while, but it doesn’t bother him, and sometimes we take it out.  I could never ever go back to the pill, but I might get the Mirena…

I got fed up after trying to different types of the pill. Doctor switched me to nuva ring and I love it. First of all, I was hating having to always remember to take the pill every day. And while I didn’t have the weight gain from the pill problems that are bothering you, I did have my sex drive zapped. Nuva ring hasn’t completely solved my sex drive, but it’s significantly better. My SO feels it sometimes, but barely. And it’s not enough to be an issue.

@zippylef: & @mackenzie85: my dr was suggesting implanon, but then she told me it makes peoples’ periods heavier and that most people spot heavily randomly (not just like a little when you wipe, but as she put it, ‘don’t leave home without a pad’) the WHOLE time they are on it. that was a deal breaker for me. i didn’t do it, so i can’t say first hand if that’s true or not, just wanted to share what i was told by me dr.

@mackenzie85: i LOVE my nuvaring! i don’t know about weight gain, other than on depo i blew up! but i don’t know that nuvaring has done anything to my weight. i find i have minimal side effects. it helps my skin a bit, i get my period regularly (on my own i only get one every 60-90 days), i have minimal cramping, little lower in my sex drive (i joke that it is another way it decreases chances of getting pregnant!), Fiance doesn’t notice it most of the time and has never been bothered by it, my ex who was uncirc wasn’t bothered by it either (only mention because PP said she thought maybe that was why her SO was bothered by it, just sayin it’s not the case for all), it has never come out by accident, and i find it is better for my moods because you are getting a constant even level of the hormone- not a pill you take each day that then wears off the next day if you don’t take another. good luck!

@MrsE.ToBe : A co-worker has one and said that she only had that problem for the first 6 months she had it. Spotting while your body is adjusting to the hormones is common in all types of long-term birth control, because the dosage of the hormones is fairly high. Mirena does the same thing.

I have since stopped birth control entirely but was on Nuvaring for a few years.  I liked it much more than the pill since I didn’t have to remember to take it. I didn’t notice any dramatic weight gain or anything. I actually didn’t have any problems at all.  I would totally recommend it to anyone!

For me, Nuvaring totally lightened and shortened my period.  It did the same thing as the pill.  That has been the worst part of going off…I forgot what a real period is like :S
