Hi!  My husband and I were both virgins when we got married and I am on the pill alone, and doing fine!  Not preggers yet, although I would love a baby!

I’ve been using just pills for about 4 years and so far (knock on wood!!) no babies. πŸ™‚

Two of my friends had birth control babies…. so, my vote is both! (or just condoms for a week or so, when you ovulate)

If you really don’t want to have a baby the more precautions you take the better. I’d go with both.

I have been on pills with no condoms for 6 or 7 years and haven’t had an issue. A lot of guys don’t like condoms because they say it decreases sensation? Not sure if that’s true or not but that’s what they say.

I have been on the pill for 8 years… never used a condom… never been pregnant or even had a scare of being pregnant.  Just be sure that you take your pill regularly–you should be fine.

Also–read your Yasmin labels and guides.  It clearly states that if you take your pills regularly that you DO NOT need a back up form of birth control.

    Congrats on your marriage!

My doctor said that if you take the pill correctly, it’s more than 99% effective.

If you’re worried, you should just make sure you take it at the same time every day, don’t miss it, and you’ll probably be fine! Condoms seem like a lot of extra work. πŸ™‚

I used the pill for almost 10 years (alone) and never got pregnant. The most important thing is to take it around the same time each day! Although, there were times I took the pill 8 hours late (few times a year) and never got pregnant. But, try not to take it more than 2-3 hours early or late. I took it at 10pm every night, many take it in the morning. Just find the right time for you.

Also, remember some antibiotics decrease the effectiveness so while taking them you need a backup method for sure. I know a few women who get pregnant while on the pill due to taking antibiotics!

I got pregnant taking the pill perfectly. Now, we have switch pills and are combining that with a spermicidal gel.

I use both because I REALLY don’t want a baby or an STD. Actually I always said that I would be fine with just the pill once I’m married and an “accident” would not be unmanagable and the risk of disease is out of the question. So, we’re planning to use only pills after our wedding.

i have the same question…. it will also be mine and my FI’s first time and I reeeeeeeally don’t want to get pregnant…..

i think i’ll go with just the pill, condoms seem like they’re a lot of trouble…

i wonder if some pills are more effective than others?

Well, no one has brought this up yet (unless I missed it!) but I would definitely suggest using a condom your first time.  Here are my reasons:

    1. If he is a virgin, he might be “done” a lot sooner than you will be ready for him to be done.  The condom will diminish sensation a little and he will be able to last longer.

    2. You are a virgin so the extra lubricant from a condom will help it make things easier for you.

    3. You are going to be so nervous and tense your first time that the added protection will ease your mind.

After you do it a few times and your body adjusts (aka it stops hurting) then you can just use the pill.  Hope this was not tmi at all!
