Pinterest is like an online corkboard for people to pin stuff they see around the internet. You know, like a corkboard you stick notes and bills you need to pay and stuff etc. you then can search your boards and other boards for specific theme-based things that you can then pin to your own board for convenience. lol

I don’t use Pinterest, but I have an account XD

It is exactly like a google image search, but theme related to categories.

I use it quite a bit – it passes time at work when things get slow!

For me. it is an “idea bank”. If I am looking for something specific e.g a Christmas decorating idea, I can do a search for that and come up with a zillion ideas. I can narrow that down by going to the DIY board then doing the same search, and now I have ideas I can make.

It is also online storage of the ideas you love. You can create Boards on which to save ideas e.g Kitchen reno, save a pic/link to that Board, but also add a note about what it was in that pic that I liked- e.g love the backsplash!

You can Pin ideas to your Board that you see on other websites.

If you join, register with an email address you get just for this purpose e.g hotmail. I use a fake email for all my internet activity. Do not link to your Facebook unless you want to lose your privacy. Other people can see your Boards and copy ideas you have pinned.

This can be a problem for wedding planning, if you have girlfriends also on Pinterest and are trying to make some of your ideas a surprise. They have recently added the ability to have up to 3 secret Boards that others can’t see, but it’s much easier just to register with a fake name and an email address obtained for this purpose.

It’s an inspiration site. It’s great when you are in need of ideas but maybe don’t know exactly what you are looking for. People “pin” them in their boards, and it gets passed around so you can bounce ideas off each other.  I used to browse the wedding page daily, and I found so many cool ideas for flowers, invites, decor that I never would have thought of. That’s where I found my hair and makeup looks too. Now that the wedding is over, I still use it for holiday decorating, home decor, recipes… They also have cool household tips, remedies, etc. can you tell I love it? Haha

I explain it like being a visual bookmarks bar. You find something on the internet you like and/or want to remember so you “pin it.” The link to the page is saved via an image from the page (that you choose when you PIN) so that you can get back to it later. The pins are organized by “boards” I have a board for recipies, for my wedding, for hairstyles I like, etc.

The cool thing about Pinterest also is that not only do you PIN things that you find, Pinterest also you to see PINS that other people have found so it’s a great way to get ideas for things. It’s very easy to go over board!

Every day. I LOVE Pinterest. My Fiance has joked about blocking access to the site after midnight because I tend to say, “Oh, I’m gonna hop on Pinterest for just a second before I go to bed” and suddenly it’s 3 a.m., haha.

@housebee:  You can do both, well 3 things.  You can upload your own pic…so it can be something you made…you can pin something from the web, or you can repin someone elses’s pin.

I enjoy it.  My wedding planner asked us to start one…and perhaps she has created a monster 🙂

    Good explanation by @julies1949:

As @icetea:  said, you can post pics from a variety of sources… be it pics you found that someone else had on their Pinterest Boards (the easiest… called re-pinning) – from other Websites using the “Pin It” App that you get off / download from the Pinterest Website – or even pics you upload from your own computer (handy if say one of your Boards is called “Vacation Places I Love” or something along those lines)

I’ve only been on Pinterest for about a month… and have to say that I LOVE it.  I was slow to get going with an account as well, because like you I didn’t really understand it when I first heard about it here on WBee (and the website does give you the impression you have to log in using other social media like FaceBook or Twitter etc).  And I wasn’t keen on that aspect at all… for privacy reasons.

It was only thru asking Questions here on WBee, that I came to realize that you could set up an account via an email address & get on that way as described by @julies1949:  above.

PS… Pinterest is very addicting.  It is a real feast for the eyes… so many great ideas and beautiful pictures for inspiration no matter what your interest (Wedding Planning – Home Decorating – Organization – Recipes – Travel etc)
