Scrolling through a thread just now, I realized that when I hover the mouse over any picture, a Pinterest “Pin it” button pops up. I’m assuming that would allow a person to log in to their P account, and pin that picture.
Obviously any picture online can be saved to a computer or used elsewhere, but it takes a few more steps (and is, of course, considered taboo). But now a person can just hover over my picture and post it onto Pinterest?! Without my explicit permission, or that of my photog?!
I’m upset, because I really don’t want my pictures on that site. I don’t belong to it and don’t particularly like it, and would never put a photo that belongs to ME (or my photog) on Pinterest.
Could someone please explain what’s going on here, and why this new feature has arrived? AND why we weren’t notified (or, if we were, how I missed it)?!

I haven’t seen this on Weddingbee but the Pinterest pin button does the same thing (grabbing pictures from anywhere and putting them on your Pinterest account). People can put this on their toolbar so they can pin anything on the web.

As a short term option, perhaps you could put a watermark on any photos you upload to WB? This way you would have credit for any photos people happen to PIN?

Yup..posting any personal pictures is out…for me.
Not that I really do in the normal but the Pin button makes it so easy to lift and transfer to the Pin world.

Anyone with a Pin it Button on their tool bar could do it before anyway.

I’m gonna pin the shit out of some photos! Then when ALL the pictures are there, no one will mind, since everyone else’s are equally being broadcast.

I agree that I’m not thrilled about it.
@chasesgirl: I think for me the difference is that it seems encouraged now, as opposed to just being an option that most people hopefully wouldn’t turn to.

I think the button is actually a good thing because it reminds all of us how easy it is for the photos we upload to spread all over the Internet

@Taeyers: That’s exactly how I feel.
@StuporDuck: I don’t think I understand your logic… how will pinning tons of photos and making it “equally broadcast” save the privacy & ownership issues?
@VAwife: Well, it certainly does now. No more pictures from me, that’s for sure.

@StuporDuck: Sorry, I didn’t get that tone and couldn’t figure out what you meant.
Is everyone seeing the Pin It button when they hover over a pic? I’m really unhappy with this.

Honestly I have had the Pinterest toolbar for a while so I could already just click on your photos and pin them if I wanted to. 😉 The new WB feature is very similar to the toolbar that Pinterest has.

@Mrs. Coyote: Agreed. I’ve been pinning pictures from WB for a while, when I see a hairstyle I like or a cool DIY, I pin it so I know where to find it when I want to revisit it!
If it’s up here already, it could already be pinned with or without the pin button, if you don’t want people to pin it – don’t post it!

In reality it makes no difference except for ease of use. If you have uploaded pics to the net, they are already available to anyone who googles. ” Bride with blond updo” – poof- there you are.

I realize that plenty of people have the “Pinterest Toolbar” thing, but for those of us who have no affiliation with Pinterest, I really don’t like that a hover-button suddenly shows up automatically. I don’t want an affiliation with the site, and the easy access makes me uncomfortable. Is WB now affiliated with Pinterest? If not, I don’t think they have any right to put the pin it on our photos. Also, we were given NO notification about this.
