@jayce: I am very familiar with the breed, but I also took 3 tries to get it right! It just goes to show that many people think they might be afraid of a pit bull but it may have in fact been some other type of dog that theyve had a bad incident with!

@runnerbeez: haha thank you! I’m pretty sure she doesn’t think she’s a dog 🙂 She’s not the most modest either, but she’s my sweetie!

@runnerbeez: my friend has a pit and hers does the same thing!!

I LOVE pits, I will never not own a bully type dog. We have a pit/american bull dog mix and she is the sweetest, best thing ever. Our 13 lb cat beats up on her!!

The last pic is when she was 4 before she turned gray. My girl is 9 now

@MrsSl82be: In the last pic your dog looks just like mine! I am the same as you…I will never not have a pit bull because they are honestly the best dogs ever. They are so good around children, new people, our families, they’re playful, cuddly, have so much personality, etc. They are just the best 🙂

@MrsSl82be: I am noticing more and more in pictures that our pups like to set their heads up on things. Lucy does it all the time. She put her head on my leg, and lets out this long exasperated puff of a sigh. Such a drama queen. Wonder if its a breed thing? lol

yep, but I’m afraid of all large dogs, and nervous around small dogs if they make a lot of noise, are jumpy, or have excessive amounts of slobber, hahaha.

I have never come across one (as they are illegal to own here) so I can’t say if I am afraid or not. But I guess they are illegal for a reason…

I find that small dogs are the most aggressive dogs, I’ve been bitten by a dachsund and a yorkie, I have never been bitten by a large dog and have been around pits all my life.

I’m definitely not afraid of pitbulls.  my parents schipperke was always biting me super hard when I was growing up – I’m pretty much just afraid of ornery dogs, regardless of breed, ha.   The only type of dog that truly makes me nervous and scares me a bit is an unleashed dog.  So many people in my neighborhood let their dogs roam off leash and it bugs the crap out of me.

I’ve never been in contact with a pitbull, but I’m generally not afraid of any dog–unless it’s being actively aggressive towards me, and then I do everything in my power to act like I’m not afraid.

The most aggressive dog I’ve ever had the misfortune to be around was my stepmother’s chihuahua. Not only did he have the most irritatingly high-pitched yelp, but he was just mean. He snapped at all of us all of the time (except my stepmom and stepsister). God forbid if anyone came into the house, he’d be on their ankles in a split-second. I don’t know why my stepmom insisted on keeping him (except that he was never aggressive towards her).

We’re cat people, but are hoping to get a dog at some point in the future (preferably when we have a yard). I don’t know what breed I’d like yet, but I do know I’d like a larger dog (and one that’s good with kids).

On regulating ownership of pit bulls…Dogfighting is illegal, and has been for years.  Yet there are still people breeding and training pit bulls specifically for that purpose, they are just doing it “underground”.  Making it more difficult to own pitbulls, in theory, may seem like a good idea.  But what it would most likely do is make it more difficult for responsible owners to own them, while those who own them for the wrong reasons would continue to do so, legally or illegally.  Breed bans and regulations only seem to punish the good people.

@Miss Apricot: So very true. I cannot imagine it being illegal to own my dog. That honestly breaks my heart. Actually this whole thread breaks my heart…

I am “afraid” of dog owners who don’t know how to train and handle their dog and of people who engage in dog-fighting and other form of animal cruelty. Unfortunately, the blame falls on the dog, not always the people.

I would like to say other, becasue no, I wouldn’t be scared of pitbulls per say but when I see pitbulls with their owners (not all but most) the owners are usually pretty scary looking themselves and you just know they train their pit bull to attack.
