I think Station Square is a great place to stay!  You’ll have easy access from there to the T, the incline, and buses, plus you can walk right across the Smithfield Street Bridge into downtown!

There are some restaurants in Station Square, but most are chains and fairly unremarkable in my opionion.  There are great options downtown and in the South Side though!  I definitely recommend checking out Market Square (lots of restaurants there – Il Pizziaolo (I might be spelling that wrong), NOLA, and Diamond Market are a few of my favorites.  There is also a grilled cheese restaurant called The Yard that is a lot of fun.  A few blocks away on Penn Avenue is Sienna Mercato, which houses a meatball restaurant, an Italian restaurant, and a rooftop bar.  If you like Thai, I also recommend Nicky’s Thai Kitchen.  It’s delicious!

I would also definitely take a ride up the incline to Mt. Washington (my neighborhood!).  You can get ice cream or coffee and stroll along and look at the view.  There are also some fun bars and restaurants along Shiloh Street.  I recommend The Shiloh Grille and the Summit.  Altius (further down Grandview towards Duquesne Heights) is the perfect spot for a fancy, upscale dinner if that’s your thing 🙂

I hope you have a great time in our wonderful city!
