Ok, I’m putting this in Honemoons because that’s where mostof the travel talk is, but this is actually a trip between a bunch of college students.
My friends and I are planning a trip to New Orleans sometime this summer, likely in late May or early June. We’ll be stying for 2-4 nights (depending on finances) and will either go during the week or a mix of weekend/weekdays. We have a list of 10 to invite but based on past experience only 4 or 5 will actually go (my best friend and I are the main planners). Also, we’re from the South- heat and humidity don’t scare us lol.
Basically, my question is what areas of New Orleans are safe and reasonably priced? Our main concern is makin sure everyone gets there and back in one piece and we have no problem planning actvities around what area we are staying in, nor do we have issues paying a little extra to stay in a safer part of town. Specific names of hotels or condos, etc to stay in would be helpful.

I was in New Orleans on my recent Wedding Trip / Honeymoon… we stayed in the Garden District… the nicer side of town. And things are quite a bit cheaper there than say Downtown (ie Downtown Hotels were going for $ 300+ a night PLUS Parking… Our Hotel, the Hampton Inn was in the $ 200 Night Range… and Parking was FREE). PLUS it was a very clean and safe building and parking lot (key access only). And the Hampton Inn includes a Hot Breakfast.
The Garden District is aprox 3 Miles from Downtown… you can use Public Transit quite easily in the daytime (cheap)… or a cab at night (cab fare one way was aprox $ 15 to $ 20 depending ON WHERE you wanted to go… Bourbon Street, Frenchman, Warehouse District).
I did some checking on-line for the Hotel we stayed in (first week of June), and you can get a room with 2 Double / Queen Beds for $ 159 on the Weekend, and $ 199 for the Weekdays (PLUS TAXES). Or a 1 Room Suite with a King Bed and a Pull Out Sofa (suite is a HUGE Corner Room with a Small Dining Table, and a Bathroom with Whirlpool tub) for $ 209 on the Weekend, and $ 259 for the Weekdays (PLUS TAXES)
Here is the link to that Hotel, as well as their spot on TripAdvisor

There was also a Best Western Plus property next door… that looked nice enough. As well as some other chain Hotels in the general area.
Hope this helps,
PS… You can PM me if you want more info on the Hampton Inn.
