Hi bees! I came asking for help with my chest and desired layered skirt before and your suggestions were REALLY helpful (previous post: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/help-with-large-chest-and-finding-a-layered-ballgown-skirt/) I actually ended up finding some of them to try – however it quickly became clear once places started letting me take pictures that natural waist is NOT going to work on me. It looks fine in person but in pictures its such a huge difference when I wear a dropped waist.
Anyway now it’s time to buy! I am having a really tough time between the Mori Lee 2897, which was the FIRST dress I tried on and that the sales associate had chosen for me with no guidance from me whatsoever – good eye because nothing else I tried looks as good as it on me, and an Eddy K I had found online but is not available anywhere near me to try on. I can order it from the same boutique that has the Mori Lee dress, though.
The Eddy K, which I can’t try on: http://eddyk.com/wedding-dresses/wedding-dress-ek1067/
Now this is the original Mori Lee that I had actually wanted:
I tried this dress 3 different times, tried so hard to make it work but it’s not working. I LOVE the skirt, but the straps are super overwhelming me even before addressing the deep cut neckline. This is the neckline modified to close a bit, and it’s still too deep for my comfort (the angle is downplaying it) and the entire bust area right above the huge skirt is just not working at all.
As you can see, the Eddy K has a very similar skirt, but with a long torso and shockingly a non-deep neckline. Strapless with a scoop neck is really what works best for me. Some examples of dresses I tried with a dropped waist (though the waist is lower in these dresses but I don’t think it matters that much) and flared skirt are:
The Mori and Eddy have completely different images. With the Mori I feel the demure princess feel, which I still do like. Turns out I like bling and I think that dress is too plain but I figured I can add it with accessories so that’s fine. The dress is very comfortable I could even just take that sample, it’s my size. I definitely feel that I look good in it. It’s a safe ready to go option. Literally everyone who has seen my dress pictures agree that I look significantly better in this than any other dress. It’s like no one actually likes the dress itself, but everyone (me included) loves me in the dress.
With the Eddy, it’s a more playful feel. Both of them fit my personality and I’m normally very conservative and traditional but the ruffled skirt makes me want to move and dance and smile. I know it’s a bit of a silly look (literally everyone I know wore a simple strapless ballgown, that was actually another reason why I didn’t want to wear something plain, silly as that is) and is girlish and when I see real wedding pictures of brides with layered skirts I always do think it looks more prom than wedding (er, no offense, I mean I love the look obviously). I just can’t let go of it, though. Even years ago when I wasn’t at all interested in wedding dresses, I would just be attracted to the ruffled skirts whenever I saw them. And of course there is the danger of not having tried it on, what if it doesn’t actually look as nice in person?? Thankfully there is a video on their page but I haven’t found a single real bride with the dress.
On the other hand, the only dresses that I felt were hopeless were those with a busy top and natural waist (Mori 2805, Christina Wu 15586, Allure C380) and I feel like all of the dropped waist dresses were just fine. Even for some of the natural waist dresses that weren’t super busy on both the top and bottom, like Maggie Sottero Montgomery, it wasn’t GREAT but it would definitely have worked, at least it was much much better in person than it looks on photos. So I feel like the Eddy isn’t a HUGE gamble, but it’s still a gamble.
Alright so which one does it seem to you like I should go for? I honestly can’t tell myself anymore and my family is too nice, just saying everything looks great and go with whatever you like, so I think I need some tough stranger love 🙂
PS. I need this dress BY DECEMBER. If I order the Eddy, I have NO TIME literally to get another dress (I did check and it will make it in time, however. If it’s looking like it won’t make it, my backup plan is to find a sample, honestly I’ve found more sample sale offers I like than new order dresses, or a preowned dress, I’ve found a lot of my shortlist dresses listed). That will have to be it.
