sakurabee : that Eddy K is gorgeous!
It’s probably a good idea to look out for samples/used. You’re a standard dress size (well apart from the boobs LOL) so there should be options. And would be better than stressing about whether the dress will arrive in time.

The mori lee looks amazing on you but i love the eddy k. So i think you should keep looking. Maybe you’ll find something similar to the eddy k.

So I just came back from a couple of boutiques that let me look at the dresses in the store without an appointment. I could only try on a couple of dresses that looked like they might have a neckline that works, but none of them worked. The only one I know the model of was this Justin Alexander 8869:
Though seeing the model picture it’s no wonder it didn’t work. This was one of the least deep cut bodices though. The dress was ok otherwise but it’s hard to tell without enough time and space for a proper appointment.
They carry Eddy K and they said they will ask on Monday if they can ship a sample of the dress I wanted but that it comes from Italy so… That’s probably going to take much too long, as I would need to order this dress in the next few days for it to arrive on time in November.
I’m feeling a lot more defeated than I thought I would be. I seem to be the only person who doesn’t like the Mori Lee, sure I like it on myself but turns out I really don’t like the dress itself. Now it really feels like I just settled for that dress because it’s pretty much the only dress that fits me and I’m going through the motions of getting a dress to just get the event ordeal over with. I’m not any more excited to wear it than I am my tshirt and leggings, which I suppose are flattering on me too, but you know, they’re just clothes. All the beaded dresses on the store looked so bland and whatever on hangers but when I tried it on, it really feels much more exciting than anything that doesn’t shine. And doubly sad, I seem to have a huge Eddy K bias because their beaded dresses felt much, much better than any other designer in store, except a few dresses that were nearly $10k. Well, this is not good because there is a very tiny selection of EK irl.
At least the poll definitely helped me see how I really feel!! Haha. I’m just stuck in this unfortunate situation where no one likes the lace dress (irl) but no one thinks I should go for the dress I wanted, even though they all like dresses of that type. Of course the ones they like have the natural waist that looks horrific on me (eg the mori lee ruffled skirt one in the op). When all this started I knew my boobs were going to ruin everything but no one believed me, I don’t know why no one believes that my boobs are a huge problem! I am so sad to have been proven right 🙂

sakurabee : I think it’s time to step away from the Mori Lee and discount it as an option. Pretend you never saw it. There’s no reason to settle for something that’ll make you so miserable.
The issue with Eddy K is that it’s going to be much harder to find samples or preowned because it’s a less popular designer. So you would have to order blind.
That said, you could do it if you could try on one of a similar style, even if the similar style has the wrong neckline. I would be more confident in doing that with the Eddy K in the video instead of the one in your original post because it’s a simpler silhouette that’s more likely to be a good option.
This is the dress in your video – did you try on any dresses with the same kind of cut and waistline – even if the necklines were wrong? If not, maybe you should.

clairebeebear : Alrighty, I’m calm. Funny thing is before I got fixated on the Eddy 1067 I was not remotely stressed about time because honestly I found SO many samples that were in perfect condition that people wanted to sell me, or brand new unworn dresses that I wanted online, but of course nooo one has the Eddy K. I think you’re right, I just have to let him go because it’s too hard to find here. I’m just going to check out my salon’s selection one more time (they were closed today) because I had ignored all their other Eddy ballgowns since they had the straight skirts, but otherwise, time to move on. They seem pretty cooperative and I think might even sell me that very Mori lace sample I wore if I asked for it, so if I end up liking another dress there, I’m probably good.
Back in the game, I guess 🙂

Dying over your Mori dress! It’s gorgeous! Absolutely my favorite hands down

sakurabee : this might be a stupid question, but have you actually talked to an alterations person at a salon about what would be involved in raising a neckline?
I mean, from the beginning you’ve said you didn’t want to do that, but is that because you’ve been told it can’t be done, or are you just assuming that it can’t?
I don’t mean you should suddenly start considering super plunging necklines, but it might not be a big deal if the neckline is only slightly too deep

sakurabee : I don’t think you’ve found your dress yet. It seems the EddyK wiill swallow you up. I think the dress would be wearing you.

I didn’t read the post (sorry) but the Mori Lee looks gorgeous on you and is also the most beautiful dress imo. I love the lace and think it’s a lot more elegant and stylish than the ruffles. That’s just my taste though, you gotta do you!
Could you have the lace dress altered to have ruffles? Or at a minimum, add a hoop underneath to give similar volume? Otherwise, is there any chance you could find a dress similar to the eddy k, to try on/buy right away? Sorry my advice is weak here, I feel like I would be just as much in a bind as you if I were in this position! Haha

clairebeebear : Oh yes definitely. So the thing is they already put the dress higher than on the model on me to cover more area so it will look better from the front, but it really doesn’t help much because boob spillage all over the place haha 😉 I don’t even have photos of how it looks because it’s just ridiculous. So the boob mass has to go somewhere, it either has to go up or to the sides, because of the plunge, otherwise the whole inside of the plunge is visible boob (like a uniboob) and I’m not comfortable with it. We tried kind of separating them so the uniboob wont’ happen but it throws off the shape of the dress sooo much especially if it’s a natural waist, it looks huge wide comical. Of course they all try to convince me that they can alter it to fit but we’ve definitely done mockups of how it would work with extra fabrics, pinning, etc, and I’m really not comfortable going that route. If I had happened to like the simple fabric tops like satin I think would have definitely worked but the ones I tried so far have far too specific of a neckline that makes blending in the addition impossible, I’d much much rather have a dress I’m comfortable in than one I’ll have to worry about my boobs. I’d definitely go with the Mori lace if the boobs don’t work out because as I said that’s my only absolute deal breaker 🙂 It’s a huge wedding with tonsss of people I don’t even know (parents are throwing) and I’m really not comfortable with unwanted stranger gazes if you know what I mean, I already get enough of that in normal life if I ever wear fitting clothes and this time I would literally be in the spotlight!
Well that being said, I’m going to definitely try on dresses regardless of neckline for the time being to first find out if I really want tulle, beading, ballgown or aline, shiny or matte etc. So we shall see!

sakurabee : oh god – your description of the monoboob and spillage had me wincing! (I’m an F cup myself so I feel your pain – I didn’t even try to wear strapless, I had a square neck and cap sleeves so I was able to wear a regular bra.)
I’m wondering if it’s worth expanding your neckline selection to scoop necks with straps and v-necks that aren’t plunging? (Not like the Mori Lee you tried on on page 1 – even on the model photo you can see her sternum. Just no.)
Like these kind of necklines.
You’ve probably already seen this Eddy K
I’m a big fan of scoop necklines as a larger busted girl myself – they’re often just that bit less revealing than a v-neck. It’s so hard to find them though.

sakurabee : oh the Mori Lee hands down! You look beautiful and that lace is gorgeous.

sakurabee : I definitely think that the Mori dress is beautiful but the Eddi K dress style definitely suits your figuer best. I normally wouldn’t recommend buying blind but the silhouette is what’s working for you best and as long as you have a backup I think you should be fine (and hopefully the dress makes it in early).
