Plain white. I think it looks a little nicer than clear.

Definitely plain white – food looks better on it, less prone to scratches, can easily go in the dishwasher and microwave (not so with stainless steel)

@PinkBubbles:  I take a lot of food pictures myself, and nothing makes food stand out like a crisp white plate! And you’ve probably noticed that in a vast majority of fancy restaurants the plates are the same basic classic white. I’m pretty sure it’s for the same reason.

White.  Glass serveware makes me think of pyrex storage pieces.

I LOVE clear glass servewear! My plates are all actually clear glass! I love them!

I like white better. For some reason to me it just seems cleaner:)

@PinkBubbles:  Pretty much! They’re super thick, too, so I haven’t broken one in the three years I’ve had them!

Some of the things that I have which are glass end up scratched and fading a bit over time.  That said, most of the glass serving ware that I have is really very cheap.

However, I would definitely vote for white.  My grandma has had plain white plates for as long as I can remember and they are one of the things that doesn’t come across as dated!

White. As much as I love clear glass, it just doesn’t look as cool as I thought it would (I bought a set when I moved on my own).

I registered for white dinner plates and then a set of small glass salad plates to mix things up….. 🙂

I would do plain white. It’s a lot easier to find matching pieces (pretty much every major retailer sells plain white dishes) compared to clear glass. The problem with clear glass too is that it scratches easily and you can see the scratches (from forks/knives) on it. There’s also the problem with hard water spots. We have plain white for both our formal set and our casual every set (square for fancy, circle for casual) and our casual ones are only starting to show the scratches (from forks and knives) after 7+ years of daily wear.
