I would say have a clear idea of what you want your wedding to be like, and try to make it happen within your budget…20 months, I have barely started planning, and I am just ready to just be married already lol.

We just figured out how much we can realistically put aside each month for the wedding fund.  The total amount that can be saved up is the maximum budget.  Unless you’re getting help elsewhere (parents), you don’t want to stretch yourself too thin and make yourselves wedding poor.

How far have you all got with the planning now?

Just found this board, as we’re most likely going to book our wedding for November 2014, and I’m really excited!

@lunalyra:  I covered some of these in the “I can’t believe there is a board for us! November 2014 brides?” thread, but there have been some updates since then. 🙂

Wedding date set for November 7, 2014.  Colors are Plum, Burgundy and Marigold with a rustic wine theme.

The venue (also the caterer), photographer, videographer, DJ and officiant have been booked.  We have the preliminary guest list, preliminary menu selections (including cake!), flowers, stationary, ceremony/reception decor and honeymoon plans pretty much figured out.  We’ve also begun discussing first dance music, gifts for family and attendants, and ceremony details (vows, readings, etc).

I’ve started organizing DIY project ideas to begin tracking the source, quantity and cost of materials needed for each project.  Right now I’m just ensuring everything planned stays within budget.

Finally – and this is a little crazy for me – but I may have found my dress!  It’s a long-ish story of how I ended up in a bridal salon trying on dresses at this point, but I found a dress I love!  I requested a sample in my bridal size and preferred color at a closer salon.  It won’t be in until around November, but if it’s everything I remember it being, I can purchase that sample right then and there.

I think it’s time for a small break from wedding planning though. 😉
