Hello October brides!
We got engaged June 25th and are getting married on Oct. 8th! I saw a few of you have the same date. I’ve always loved fall, so I’m excited to be planning an October wedding.
We’re getting married quickly because it’s time (we’ve dated 4 years, are older, ready to start a family) and also because my grandfather almost died earlier this year and it made me realize how much I wanted him at my wedding. He’s doing better now, but I don’t want to take his health for granted…
Anyway, we’re getting married in Oregon, where my granddad lives, and I live on the East Coast, which makes it a little more challenging.
We didn’t have time for save the dates, so I just called and emailed family/friends and then sent invitations last week. We’re getting married in a small historic hotel… it has a lovely garden courtyard that I’m hoping we’ll get married in – weather permitting.
We’re still deciding on colors, but the bridesmaid dresses will likely be deep purple/eggplant. Our invitations are gold and I plan to use gold as an accent. Not sure what other colors…
See… even if you were feeling behind, there’s someone probably more behind that you… me! 🙂
This is the first week I really started feeling stressed… what about you? Do you still have much left to do?
This is my first post on any type of wedding forum… just starting to feel a little overwhelmed and looking for support/inspiration from other Oct. brides.

Im not an October bride but your colors are similar to what I am doing- ie: deep plum or sangria colored dresses and gold accents! We are also doing deep green and bronze in there and some red. Sounds odd with all the colors but it looks similar to these inspirations!
Youre doing so well so far, just enjoy the planning time and being engaged!! Its going to be beautiful and Im so glad your grandfather will get to take part in enjoying your day as well!!

Hi! Just wanted to say we are date twins! 🙂 Hope everything turns out wonderfully! I’ve only been planning since March and I feel like that was short so I can imagine you feel a bit overwhelmed!

Hello and welcome! Congrats on your October wedding. Our date is that same weekend. 🙂 I will tell you that for bridesmaid dresses, it’s probably too late to order them from a bridal store. Off the rack is fine, of course, but you may find it difficult to find anything in eggplant. It’s one of my colors, and the one I really wanted for my Maid/Matron of Honor. However it’s really hard to find that color in stores. Ann Taylor and J Crew both have a wine color that comes somewhat close.

Hi girls! Thanks for the welcome.
misschickpea – thanks for the nice post and all the lovely photos… the first ones especially are right along the lines of what I’m thinking.
lovekiss- I like the spiced wine color at jcrew but my bm’s need long gowns, since one of them has a prosthetic leg due to cancer and doesn’t like to show it. The jcrew gowns are $300+ in long, so that’s out unless they go on sale. I’ll paste the two we’re considering below… do you guys like either of them? The first is available at Macy’s, Dillard, and Von Myer… the second one is at Nordstroms.

I’m in OR, what do you need help with? 🙂

You are way more courageous then I am! I am also using dark purple as my main color but I’m using accents of burnt orange and deep red. I really like the dark purple, gold, and dark green combo! And I lovelovelove the first dress you posted!

@kjgirl – glad you liked that dress – we decided to go with it! All the girls got their dresses ordered today… thankyouGod! I didn’t realize I was even that stressed about it, but I felt SO relieved as soon as that was settled! So plum and gold are definitely some of our colors, but I still need to figure out what else to add… Also, are you having a bach party in Baltimore? My girls are trying to figure out what to do for mine…I’m not super into drinking/partying anymore, so we’re trying to think of something different but can’t think of much…
@creativeplannertobee – you are too sweet to offer your help! I can’t think of anything I need though… it’s mostly an issue of not being able to assemble stuff in advance (out of town baskets, centerpieces, etc.) because everything has to go on the plane with me! It’s also hard I guess because I can’t visit vendors in person. Do you have a Market of Choice near you? I was thinking about getting a small cake from them… I’m pretty low key about the cake… as long as it takes good, I don’t care too much about what it looks like… we might even get a few cakes/cheesecakes from Costco and just have an array of dessets. Just wondering if you’d ever tried their cakes?

@78h2o: I think we’re going to The Getdown for my bach party. It’s a dance club in Baltimore. We’ll probably do dinner before. You could try PBR in Powerplant. You don’t have to drink but there’s a mechanical bull you can ride. Also, there’s a Pirate Cruise that goes around the Harbor that is really fun! You play games and people can bring alcohol on if they want. For my friend’s bach party we’re going to Dick’s Last Resort at the Harbor which is completely different from any restaurant I’ve been to. Just some ideas!

Baltimore bach ideas: Cooking class (Tersiguels in Ellicott City and Cafe de paris in Columbia offer them, and there are ones done through the community colleges and private p[laces, too), Let’s Dish, spa time (Spa of the Valley is wonderful. their relaxation pool is heaven!), vineyard hopping (marylandwine.com has several different wine trails), tubing or canoeing on the Potomac(early september is a good time of year, riverriders.com out of Harpers Ferry is a good choice), Orioles or Ravens game (I really wanted to do a Ravens game, but it looked too expensive for my crew), weekend roadtrip to Rehobeth for outlet shopping, a weekend at a Deep Creek Lake house, a day in St Michaels with a sail on the Selina II, DC roadtrip to go to the zoo and/or museums. Need more ideas? i am sure I can come up with a few. 🙂
I would stay away from riding the bull, unless you are okay with strangers recording you on their cell phone cameras during your ride, and possibly ending up on YouTube or some creeper’s private collection. Think about it.

@78h2o: I used to be an activity director, and I always had to buy cakes for birthday parties-I like Winco cake best. Their sheet cakes are around $18.00-so a bit less expensive than anywhere else, and we have a Costco where I live, their cakes are pretty good too. I know an officiant, photographer if you still need them PM me and I can give you names.

YAY date twin!! If you’re doing it in 3 months you’ll want to get kickin’ on many things. Good thing all your maid’s have their dresses ordered! I like the color scheme, very fall-ish. I don’t live anywhere near you but if you need any help as far as where I’m at in the process or what’s next please feel free to ask!
Some things to think about soon… Shower (if you’re having one), your dress!!, venue, food, favors, ceremony, guests, invites.
