Two hours a day , five days a week will probably get you some great results, just be careful of overdoing it and messing with your cortisol! Make sure to mix in some low weights with cardio 🙂

I’d say just eat a clean [cut out white sugar/white starches/high sodium/proessed] and keep it balanced! [fruits, veggies, lean protein, whole grains]

I think you look great how you are, btw 😉

Keep a blog and include some pictures or something to document and log yoru thoughts and progress!

Good luck with everythiing!

I think you look great too.  But if you want to lose weight, I always recommend South Beach.  My husband lost close to 70 pounds (and has kept it off for about 2 years) doing South Beach.  He did very minimal exercise during the first month of the diet, and didn’t really exercise at all after that.  He’ll drink beer now and eat sweets on special occassions, but he never eats white bread, pasta, or pizza dough.

Awesome ! I’m not big on meats myself, so I use cheese and other proteins( lentils, beans , etc)  to fill up with tons of veggies.

Lean protein is basically the de fatted meats- so chicken breast, fish. low fat turkey, lean beef as opposed to bacon , full fat beef, chicken skins, fried meats  etc etc

i think you are already on a great start.  you should pick whatever method/diet that will be easiest for you to follow and targets your weakness(es).  people have success with all sorts of diets but i think it has to suit you and be convenient.  i know some people love the weight watchers point system and others hate counting points.  i’ve seen people successfully lose weight on nutrisystem, slim 4 life, paleo, food addicts…i could never do nutrisystem because of the boxed food but for some it works because you don’t have to worry about planning you meals.  you pick an item for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack.  food addicts worked for several people who have issues with over eating.

my weakness is sweets.  i decided to start off with dukan but only went through phase one then transitioned to south beach phase 1 and then 2.  this helped me get rid of my cravings for sweets.  i’m not strictly doing south beach but use it more as a guide.  i’m doing a good carb diet plus restricted calorie diet.

it looks like we are similar heights but i carry my weight more above my waist line and you carry it below.  my bmr is slightly over 1,400 calories.  i try to eat less than that if i’m not doing anything else to burn additional calories.

3,500 calories is a pound so i have to cut or burn 3.500 calories in order to lose a pound.  by eating more protein, i stay fuller longer.  i also notice that i consume fewer calories if i eat protein because protein is more satisfying but i also stick with lean proteins.  i’m not necessarily doing low fat but i certainly stay away from pork belly and most other red meat.  i try to include good fats because i know my body needs it.  when i buy greek yogurt or drink milk, i usually get 2%.  i find that 2% greek yogurt gives me a little more energy to get me from breakfast to lunch.  i also love avocados so i have half an avocado about twice a week.

this has worked so far.  i’m eating about 1,000 calories a day.  it’s not difficult to restrict calories when i’m not eating cake or ice cream.  i won’t even allow myself to cheat because i know how easily i can fall off and start eating ice cream every night.  almost all calories i consume now are nutrient packed.  i buy whole grain bread with lots of fiber.  i snack on things like cucumbers, sugar snap peas, kimchi, nuts, and hummus.  meals usually consist of chicken breast, beans, green salads, veggies, and eggs.

i eat small meals and snack quite a bit.  i try to eat breakfast around 9:00 (but start with coffee earlier).  eat lunch around 12:00.  have a snack around 3:00 and eat dinner around 6:00.  i’ve lost about 12 pounds in the last 5 weeks.  my doctor thinks i should probably only lose another 10-12 pounds.

i think you look great now.  it doesn’t seem like you really need too much help.  by going back to your old routine and cutting back a bit and working out more, you should see the pounds drop.

I acutally used Bethenny Frankel’s online personal training program (http://skinnygirl.fitorbit.com/).  It worked great for me.  Basically it’s about calorie control and working out.

Sooo, I’m a plus sized girl, so I don’t have much advice for you, but I just wanted to chime in and say that you look AMAZING in all the pictures you posted. I understand that you want to lose the weight for your own self-esteem, but you look so great!! 🙂

@OP

South Beach is like a toned down Atkins.  The idea is to get your body used to processing food normally, rather than being dependent on the glucose boost cycle that we get from a lot of carbs.

There are 3 phases.  The first phase is very difficult, and you don’t even eat fruit.  This lasts for a week.  In the second phase, you start to reintroduce fruits and some foods that have slightly higher glycemic index.  The third phase, you reintroduce even more foods.

My husband has tried to stay in a variation of phase three.  He eats fruits, drinks beer and has some sweets on special occassions, whole wheat wraps adn sandwiches, but never white rice or white potatoes, white bread, pasta etc.  He does eat a lot of dark chocolate and sugar free pudding though.

There are lots of books you can get from the library on south beach, including cook books.  There is also an online website with forums etc. but I think it costs money.

ETA: Whenever my husband eats a lot of sugar now, he says it makes him feel funny… I guess because he is not used to it.  He doesn’t crave the carb heavy foods anymore, and hasn’t for a long time.

1200 calories a day.  You should not eat less than that.  1200 calories a day will make it happen, even without exercise.  I think you look great!

@cbee: Actually, sometimes people need a bit more–even WITH exercise, my weight gets “stuck” if I eat only 1200 a day. OP, I’d recommend figuring out your BMR and going from there when figuring out how many calories to eat in a day.
