- Wedding: July 2014
Bees, hello hello again. I have come down with some fun flu like, thing. If I am not on the toilet, I am sleeping. If I am not sleeping, or on the throne, I am unresponsive and uttering jibbering until my boyfrend, fiance, just pats my shoulder and tells me to go back to sleep. Still calling him the boyfriend, have to break that habbit. When I am not in a vegetable state, I was lurking around Pinterest and Etsy, my guilty pleasures! I talk about poo a lot on here, sorry.
Moving on! Newly engaged over here. Like, so new that only my mom and close friends know. Him and I are slowly working on telling everyone. Mostly because I am not mentally prepared to hear the, “You’re too young, hasn’t been that long,” crap right now. My mother was shockingly supportive and excited though, which was great. Now, for my dad. Blah. The point I am trying to make here is that, it is so new, he haven’t even discussed a date, or really, anything yet. We are in the blissfull kissing and hugging and nonstop cuddling phase. Despite having no date, or plans for that matter, I spent my sick time planning out our wedding.
One time, when we first met, we were blabbering about god only knows what, and I remember, I was crawling out of bed, and he happened to mention wanting a Nightmare before Christmas wedding. I leaned over him and whispered, “Oh no honey, I want a Alice in Wonderland wedding.” And kissed him and wandered out of the room. I heard him laughing and then yelled out, “Nice for me to be informed of all of this!” He didn’t say no did he? EXACTLY.
Before you Bee’s all freak out and think I am doing all of this planning, relax and know this is all brainstorming! On top of that, if I ask him for any advice, the answer I get 110% of the time is, “Babe, do what makes YOU happy, I am happy with you.” Awe I know. Barf, so sweet! No really though, he is my big ball of perfection.
As I stated in previous threads, He is all things dark and Tim Burton. Along with pirates and zombies. Sorry, no zombies or pirates. Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite movies. I can watch it on repeat all day. Infact, I did yesterday. But that is a perfect compromise and theme for us. Tim burton like, dark, vibrant, with a garden and whimsical feel. We both win. While being sickly and couch ridden, I found all this fun stuff and thought I’d share!
ENGAGEMENT PHOTO SHOOT:
I know a couple that he has met that are both pretty into photography, and will do a shoot and edit for 150, and would have done it for free probably if I asked. I found a few shots of theirs that I simply LOVED, and asked for that sort of feel, but more to fit our theme. While lurking around, I found a few shots and ideas I fell in love with, without having to set up a whole damn tea party somehwere.
All we would really need for that is a thrift store mirror, and dra a chair along with us, and a deck of cards. Keep in mind, I do not plan on wearing a heavy costume for these, that is a little too cheesy for my taste. That last one looks like a skank costume anyway. I was searching around, and found this gem, an for only 25 bucks, I can’t go wrong.
It isn’t “ALICE IN WONDERLAND” screaming at you and jumping down your throat, it is subtle, and with the setting, it will be a pretty neat I think. As for him? I like the vest idea. I am sure we can find him something at Salvation Army or goodwill that will fit the theme.
WEDDING CEREMONY/ RECEPTION:
I am a pretty craft and artistic person, atlease I think so, I crafted his proposal ring box, and made brick and rust with salt and nail polish. I am pretty innovative, in my mind anyway. I even painted this for his birthday:
He loved it, and it is hanging in our family room. Well, enough bragging about that. Here are some of the ideas I found, and can’t wait to start working on.
This arangement right here is what gave me my color inspiration. I had a rough idea of what I wanted in my head, but this mashed them together, and made it come to life infront of me. That made it nice and easy to make a swatch set from.
Now, which color will be the main one, featured on the bridesmaid’s dresses and such, I have no idea. I am digging the dark eggplant though. That way the other colors will really stand out and be vibrant.
I had invisioned top hat centerpieces, with tall branch arranegments, with little details bringing them to life.
I want to paint the branches a hammered bronze wiith one of those specialy sprays. I used it on our furniture on our back patio, and I really love the effect. I also love that these branches are much cheaper than any floral arragement.
Look at these! How amazing are they? Oh, my love for Etsy! The seller said she can work with someone to pick out the designs on the hats, so, they will fit our color scheme better. But I am far too excited fot these. These, I will not be making myself. I don’t feel like I have the patience, and I know my edges will look like poo. I think 10 or 15 dollars a peice? I can survuve to not make them I think 🙂
I love the burlap as a table runner, over a wood table, or even a dark table cloth. I think it fits the theme well, and I am sure can’t be very expensive.
It wouldn’t be Alice in Wonderland without bottles with “Eat me” and “Drink me references.” All relatively cheap on etsy, with the tags being easy to make, just need some ribbon!
For extra small details, I found really cool themed pieces. Like, pocket watch parts, sold in sets? Who knew? I could attach them to the branches with ribbons and such!
Also, found edible candy keys! Lovely to scatter around the tables, especially with vintage looking playing cards table numbers! Once again, found on Etsy, and are customized with your initials!
This is where more of my crafiness comes in to play. I needed an idea for a favor, and wasn’t finding anything cheap, but nice that fit my theme. Untl I found these. I can make my own mini teacups, and place on in each for each guest. They can grow with our love! Ok, I am being corny.
For Steven and my table, I wanted our own, bride/groom top hats. I may be able to make these myself, and add whatever details I want. One black, one white. I also had the idea of creating a round arrangement of cream and dark red roses on a higher stand. And propped up against the stand, would be a artist’s pallet, as if Alice had been painting the roses.
I would love to have a venue outdoors, or indoors with an attached porch or patio, for a few reasons. When I think of Wonderland, I think of gardens and shrubbery, and branches and whatnot. Also, I WANT A HOOKAH BAR! Nothing fancy or extreme, just a table with a few hookahs, with different flavors. I have only ever smoked a hookah a few times, but it is a nice social thing, and it is light and flavored. It obviously fits the theme well.
For entrances, and walkways, I want to recreate this “Down the rabbit hole” entrance, and create little arrangements to hang. I think the entrance is REALLY creative, and could be a fun weekend project!
For the gift/ card table, I was invioning a bird cage like thing, obviously, but I would add my own twist to it. I also found this one craft on pinterst. You take a letter from any craft store, and add details with elmer’s glue, and let dry. Then paint over, and sponge for the desired effect. Add a couple of flowers, and viola, you have a nice peronalized inital!
I am a sucker for the sand unity thing during ceremonies, played out or not. With some glass etching, I could create a really cute personalized one, that fits our garden theme.
I have been seeing the cake in my head for a while now. I found the perfect idea for the bottom tier. Above that, I want the twisty iron fence detailing. The text tier, a tier of just colorful flowers, the teir above that, just a plain tier, looked like it was draped with a table clothe, with a “Drink me” bottle, and next to it, stacked teacups, with cards and ribbons cascading around it. I have a picture of the bottom tier until I draw out what I want.
I found a sample image of invitations that I like, and the colors are customizable, since these are a bit too blue for me. Also, love these envelopes. Tea dying normal envelopes, and some stamps. Those should be pretty easy!
I saved my favorite idea for last. Different sized balls, different colors, hanging rom different lengths from fishing wire, giving the illusion of floating flowers, I LOVE THIS.
That is what I have spent my past 2 sick days doing. Any ideas you have? Like or hate anything? These are all ideas just floating around in my brain and tucked away for safe keeping in my pinterest secret board.
