What’s up, Bees!
So the last month or two has been INSANE…unexpectedly moving, school…life….and I haven’t gotten around to much wedding planning. We have a few things, like my dress and our photographer (okay, we have only two things haha) only because I wanted to get engagement pics done early in the process so we could use them for everything (website, registry, save the dates/invitations, etc). Our date is 6/16/18 so we just hit that one year countdown and I’m feeling the pressure. We have checked out one venue and liked it…but it’s a garden, in oregon, in June…so we’re a little nervous about soggy grass and having to do everything on the covered tennis court that they have. Last night I stumbled upon The Troutdale House and Fiance and I are a little bit obsessed, I’m going to check it out at the end of the week. I have total freedom this week, no school and no work, but next week I start classes again and my summer is looking really busy. What are some other things I could tackle in the coming days? It’s been like five months since we’ve been engaged and I’m still having trouble figuring out where to start. I feel like I did things backwards or out of order…

The venue is pretty important to knock out early…especially if you already picked your date and are not flexible with it!

Luckily we can be semi-flexible, I texted my photographer last night and she only has a couple of summer dates booked for 2018 but yes, my goal is to find our venue by the end of July at the absolute latest! We do have the garden venue on hold so if we can’t find anything else then we have that as a back up. It stresses me out though, because we can’t send out save the dates or look for any other vendors until we at least know for sure which city we’ll be in.

Yup, that’s definitely why you want to lock down a venue and date!! Other things will fall into place afterwards. And for me the venue was the hardest part b/c I refused to pay some of the ridiculous prices I was quoted.

That’s my date too!
I agree that the venue is the biggest thing to get scheduled. If it doesn’t come with the venue, the caterer is next. Another big thing to tackle would be the DJ/band. Also an officiant is very important. You could also think about arranging a hotel block if you think one will be necessary.
Right now I already have my venue/food, band, dress, bridesmaid’s dresses (picked out, some have ordered them but not all have yet), photographer, hotels, officiant, hair dresser and florist. For the florist, I’ve spoken with them and reserved the date, but am not going to actually pick out all my flowers and get a firm price until after xmas. I’m getting pricing on transportation but don’t plan to actually book it for several months yet.

Agree with PP…venue is #1…book that before anything else!
Definitely schedule your engagement pics. Start looking at STD options that you like and pin that down. Those are both easy to do.
– BUDGET – create it, stick to it, SAVE
– Create your wedding website with the basics
– Choose your wedding party if you’re having one
– Pin down a color scheme
– Dress shopping for your bridesmaids
– Start the guest list
– Book officiant
– Book rentals needed (if any)
– Research band/dj, florist, caterer
– Research hotel room block if needed

Yes I think catering will be my next step because food is part of our top three priorities. I might not even need a florist for anything other than wedding party flowers because troutdale gives us a silk flower center piece for every table, and flowers aren’t super important to either of us, other than the bouquet. So hopefully we can save some money there. Engagement pics are done too, we did them at Smith Rock in central oregon this weekend…anxiously waiting to see them!!
