I’m planning a Destination Wedding stateside.  However, we looked into international places and we were never going to use a travel agent.  I didn’t want to force my guests to do anything becaue I didn’t know if they would be comfortable that way.  Sometimes shopping around will save $$.  I also feel like 7 months in advance is an awfully early time to have a deposit.  Maybe it’s just me since I’m used to doing it all myself.

If having certain people there is extremely important to you you should talk to them and see what their opinions are on the subject, if money is an issue.

@nycbrde2011: def try to get your deposit back and try to just plan your wedding at the resort and not get your guest’s involved at all with the rates. You might have to go to a non all inclusive hotel but that seems like the only option if they are going to make your guests place deposits so far ahead of time. 7 months is adequate for a wedding deposit but pretty far off for a hotel room deposit.

@nycbrde2011: I was lucky enough to have my Maid/Matron of Honor rent a HUGE house in Nassau for a large portion of my guest to stay in for super inexpensive rate. 14 people in one house huge house and it came to about $175.00 per person for 3 nights – Thursday- Sunday.  Everyone in the house had a blast. Like MrsNeutrino said- take care of you and your husband stay at the resort you want to get married at. 1/2 of my guest stayed in the house my Maid/Matron of Honor rented out and others found fabulous deals on their own.

Good Luck and here the website to explore those options:

We didn’t use a TA either. The resort we choose had us put a 50% deposit on all the rooms that we get to apply to our balance for our wedding costs once our guests call and book their rooms (and put their deposit down). We secured low-season pricing for our guests at the resort (it’s the last weekend of high season) by simply asking since it was so close to low-season anyway.

I secured a discount code from American Airlines & Delta for our guests to use if they wanted to (their is a place on most airlines websites for group travel) and they are booking their flights when and how they want.
