New here! But, we’re getting married October 5, 2013 and I don’t know where to start!! I bought a planner from Barnes and Nobles, but I mostly just need my wonderful fiance to actually sit down and talk about all this stuff and actually make decisions. I mean come on! It’s less than 6 months away!

I feel so behind and want to get planning! Here’s our current to do list:

-We’re still looking for a venue

-We need to get engagement pictures to send our STD magnets

-I still need to ask 2 more people to be bridesmaids.. and then go get their dresses

-Create the final draft of the guest list (it’s at like 200…)

-Figure out who’s doing food and when (reception AND wedding)

-Order my boots when we have the extra $$

-Register at a couple places

I feel like most of this depends on where we have the wedding — we may go to the mountains on a friend’s farm OR find something local… That needs to be decided ASAP

Literally all I’ve gotten done is:

-Found my dress

Love this idea of blogging/planning with other brides though!

This week (tomorrow actually!) we’re ordering our invitations! That sort of forced us to choose our menu selections because we need to put them on our response cards… so that’s done! And I selected my veil as well.

I’m hoping next week to schedule my hair and makeup trials and decide on stylists.

@leahlou:  the best place to start is with a guest list! Then you know how many people you’re looking at and then you can also kind of narrow out venues if they don’t hold enough. But I agree with s2bmrscook venue is a good place to start! And a date!!

We have a rough draft guest list but it came out to over 200!! But at least we know that we need a bigger place 😛

I’m meeting with my good friend to ask her to be a bridesmaid and also ask about her planning ventures, since she’s getting married in May.

It’s all so excited and SO overwhelming!!!

You are a super woman @s2bmrscook

@s2bmrscook:  wow you did get a lot done!! i have all the big things done: venue, DJ, photographer, cermony, officiant, dress, bridesmaids, and we just sent our SaveTheDates’s out yesterday so the guestlist has been confirmed. now we have to concentrate on the details like decor, menu, flowers, ect, gifts… it never ends but i’m loving it!

Its so exciting to send out the STDs! We sent ours out in January (100% of our guests are out-of-town) and it made everything feel more real. I got a lot of our planning done super early, so I don’t really have weekly tasks. I really need to get on the music and figure out all of our ceremony songs and what I definitely want played at the reception. I keep putting this off though. I really need to contact a make-up artist too. I’m a little burnt out on wedding stuff so I’m starting to procrastinate 🙁

@adoc86:  I’m feeling a little burnt out on wedding planning as well. All of the major things are booked, and now I’m starting to get into the details. Recently I’ve been feeling like “can’t October just get here already?!?” and less like “I’m loving all of this wedding planning!!!”

Maybe it’s just this stretch of the planning. I’ve always heard that there is a little bit of a lull around the 6 month mark. Mostly because brides generally have all of the major planning done and don’t feel the need to rush through the details of it all. But I’m trying to push myself to get it all done sooner than later. Although I’m feeling a little burnt out right now, I’d rather feel burnt out and keep going than feeling overwhelmed and completely stressed in the last two months. My goal is to have everything done by the beginning of October (I know there will be seating charts and last minute details that can’t be done in advance) but everything that can be done, hopefully will be done by the beginning of October (3 weeks out).

@starz88962:  OMG I haven’t even begun to think about seating charts! I don’t even want to consider doing that anytime soon, haha. We’re doing one giant king’s table (only having around 50 guests) so I feel like it will be even more complicated. Its like you’re putting all of the ‘important people’ closer to the bride and groom (we’re sitting at the head of the table) and people lose importance as they go down toward the other end. At least thats how I think people will feel and I feel kind of bad about it (maybe I’m over thinking this). Its not like we can do it now anyway since we don’t have our final headcount, but I am not looking forward to doing it at all.

@s2bmrscook:  That is the exact reason I stayed away from ‘friendors.’ My best friend is a wedding designer/florist, but I decided to hire a florist because, like you said, I want someone that I can be mad at if it doesn’t turn out right.

I feel like I’m close to being done…except I have to send out our save-the-dates and eventually our invitations, which is going to be a HUGE project. So far I’ve booked my venue/caterer, photographer, florist, DJ, makeup artist, and month-of wedding planner. I already bought my dress, veil, and shoes and my bridesmaids have picked out their Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses. Now we have to figure out tuxes and finish up our cake tasting. OH, and the printer just finished our save-the-dates yesterday! So really, all that’s left are the tuxes, rehearsal dinner venue, and videographer. Yay! 🙂

My most recent development is that I’ve ordered a sample invitation from Etsy.  We’ll then have to work on finalizing all of our weekend plans and times, because with our invitations we are also including Friday night dinner and Sunday morning brunch. Once it’s set in letterpress, that’s what it’s going to be!

I also picked up a second part-time job at Starbucks for nights and weekends, and 100% of that income will be direct-deposited into the wedding account.  We still need to come up with roughly $3,000 between now and October.

What I still need to do ASAP: find and book a hair/makeup person, a cake person and a florist.

Also need to start working with our officiant to build our ceremony.

Still haven’t gotten off my ass to go to the gym.
