You and I are in the same boat! We will most likely be having our wedding Oct or Nov of 2013! I wont be shopping for a dress until fall of next year in case my taste changes (and I lose weight :)). Im not asking bridesmaid until next summer more than likely to make sure that I pick the right ones! We will probably choose our venue here in the next few months because nowadays you can never be too early in choosing that AND we will have our pick of dates! Im slowly going to start collecting my decor items and accessories as we go. My main reason for a longer engagement was so that I dont feel rushed or stressed. We will also be paying for it ourselves so we can save longer without changing our lifestyle!

I started with a venue (and a wedding planner). I was shocked to learn that popular venues can book up nearly two years in advance so it is never too early to start looking.

After that I would look into the big things like photographer, caterer, florists, DJ’s. The things as my wedding planner put it “you can’t duplicate if they are booked.” All the other smaller details and even your dress can wait until less than a year before hand.

I’m planning a wedding the weekend after yours! It would have been the same weekend but that is my Bestfriend and MOH’s bday.  So far we’ve just looked a few venues and said no more than yes. I think we’ve decied on a private ceremony with just us, my Maid/Matron of Honor and his Bridesmaid or Best Man, and then our parents and grand parents.

We have a theme picked out and colors. Over the last part of the fall we were going to garage sales and I was getting a variety of vases for our centerpieces.  I’ve contacted caterers just to get an idea of what something we would want would cost. We aren’t doing typical “wedding” food.

I went to one bridal show, but I probably won’t go to any more. I have a pretty good idea of the look and feel for the wedding.  For some reason SO thinks we need not feed anyone and just have a big EVENT. What this event is, he doesn’t know. So unless he can come up with something we’ll be having food.

I started out doing that and then everything got screwed up in the long run.  I wish you the best of luck though.  Just take your time. =)

I’m still waiting, but we were hoping to get engaged this year, so we’ve actually already started looking! Like some PP’s, we’re also shooting for October of 2013. I started with the venue, we have it narrowed down to two places we really love. I’ve been stalking photos to get ideas of what kind of style I want for my wedding. I already figured out what I want to do for my flowers (there’s a place in my area that lets you pay for part of your flowers in labor!) so I’m just getting ideas for what I specifically want now. I am in love with a dress, so when I do finally go dress shopping I really want to try it on. I am so eager to get started!

We planned for over two years my first big decision was booking the venue, then the photographers and videographers about 18 months out.  I did a lot of research 2 years out.

@KatyLovesJoey:  My Fiance just has no real idea how much things cost. Let’s just say that I say his favorite word is Value…. But his version of value and my version of value are too different things. Not super different but different. He tried to tell me that we would be getting our Photo off of craigslist because he didn’t want to pay 2000 for pictures. I tried to explain it was about the quality and how if it’s a mechanic we’re getting off of craigslist we can just find someone else if they screw up. Well we can’t find someone else if they screw up our Photos. So I’ll be finding someone I like and paying for the photos my self.

We’ll be doing a lot of DIY stuff and with the 2 year long engagement we can shop for deals, love GROUPON! as well as garage sales!  Not to mention black friday sales and end of the season sales. We’re planning a Baseball themed wedding, and he already has a ton of stuff to help decorate the venue.

So we’re really spending the time to gather things for cheaper and plan out the DIY projects.

@KatyLovesJoey:  Remember you can always sell anything you don’t end up using on here or even on Craigslist as well as Ebay! I haven’t bought too much yet, just the vases because I know I’m going to use them. I bought some colored paper as well. I’m not a huge flower person, so I’m doing paper flowers for centerpieces and I wanted to see how long it would take, and if Fiance liked it, and what it would look like on a vase.

Have you found a venue yet?

  • Wedding: May 2013

My fiancé and I are planning for a May 2013 wedding, so not as far off as yours but still far away.  I’ve been doing a lot of research about the ceremony venue, the reception venue, dresses, etc.  I’ve asked a friend of mine to do the flowers (she’s a florist), and my dad and brother (both are professional photographers) will be doing the pictures.  I know that the venue only books 365 days in advance, so I can’t schedule that yet… I’m starting to look for dresses at the end of December (since I’ll be back at my parents’ house for christmas and want to go shopping with my mom).  I’m in grad school so I’ve been using wedding planning as a procrastination device.  Plus, if I can buy some things now and spread out the costs, it’ll be easier for my fiancé and I financially.

Ahhh I love being engaged!  That’s another reason I wanted a long engagement!  The real reason is my fiancé and I are both in grad school so we wont’ really have time until May 2013!

Happy planning!

We are planning for a Nov 2013 wedding here!  We have started looking into venues (even though we already had a good idea of where we would be married), but that is the only thing that we will set in stone for a while.  I think photographers and caterers will be next.  Dress is waiting for next year, and wedding party will be chosen early 2013.
