- Wedding: September 2013 - The Skinner Barn
I’m getting married at a barn in the fall and the ceremony will be held out in the field. The venue provides white wooden garden chairs for the reception but they are only allowed for indoor use and cannot be taken out for the ceremony. Now I am trying to figure out what chairs to rent for the ceremony. I have the option of white plastic folding chairs of white wooden garden chairs. I clearly like the look of the wooden chairs more but they are a whopping $2 more per chair. The plastic chairs are $2 a piece while the wooden chairs are $4 each. We’re renting about 80, so that would be $160 for chairs vs. $320 for chairs.
My question is: are the wooden chairs worth the extra $160? The ceremony is only about 15 minutes long, so I’m not concerned too much about comfort, but will they look weird in the photos?
Plastic – $2/chair

Wooden – $4/chair

No, not worth it. We got cheap chairs for that very reason, short ceremony.

We’re going with white plastic too. It’s just not worth the extra money for something so short.

Wooden would be worth it to me. I think they will look much nicer in the photos down the aisle, and that is a shot I defintely want.
BUT, $160 isn’t a budget buster for me. And I’m kind of particular about chairs/decor.
The plastic chairs are absolutely fine. I just prefer the look of the wooden and know that in a lot of ceremony photos I have seen, the chairs show up in them.

I totally see the difference.
But you know what, don’t spend extra $ on the wooden ones. People just need a place to park their asses for likely less than an hour. I promise you that NO ONE is going to remember what chairs they sat on, unless they’re absolutely nasty, or have those ugly seat covers on them that tangle peoples feet.
I really think you should save your money, and I’m all for splurging on wedding things, just make sure theyre things that are REALLY important to you.

Def go for the plastic – it’s only 15 mins, and its outside. The pics won’t show the chairs that much – just don’t ask for a pic of all the chairs set up without people in them!
I got lucky – we rented the white plastic for our reception, and were sent the wooden chairs.

Not worth it, you’re not going to see the chairs really anyway, when you come down the aisle there will be people all over them!

I say plastic too. Once there are people sitting in them it won’t matter that much anyway because you won’t be able to see them very well
