I had one person claim they never received their invitation, and I double checked my list to make sure I had the address right, and I did. I did have a few come back to me, mainly because the guests moved without telling us and for whatever reason it was not forwarded. But over all, the experience was very good. Everyone got their STD, and also their invitation within 3 days of sending, even across country.

We had perfect luck, and in fact we misaddressed one invitation (to my in-laws, but hey, they are the ones who gave us the house number out of order), and it STILL got delivered to them, just a few days late. I think the key is to use the right postage and to make sure that your writing is legible and not too fancy.

I was afraid of my envelope being too heavy or the writing rubbing off so I did a test mailing to my FI’s house. It was great! The only problem I had was when I sent a STD to one of my bridesmaids. Her postman made the decision that she did not live at her apartment and sent the STD back to me! Luckily she cleared this up before I sent the invite to her.

Meh. I give them a B- for service.

Some guests have claimed that they sent in their RSVPs, but we never received them. Although I’m more likely to blame my guests than the Postal Service for this. I don’t think they’re really being honest.

The real kicker is that the Postal Service returned one of our invites to us 1 day AFTER the RSVP date! (7 weeks after they went out!) They claimed that the street it was addressed to doesn’t exisist! When it most certainly does and we have sent this person multiple other things without incidence! WTF?!

Congrats! We had no issues really. There were a couple of address issues, but those were my fault.

    Not really too many problems:

    – One person didn’t get their invite..don’t have any idea what happened there!

    – Had a couple come back because of address issues, but those were my fault 🙂

We had a horrible time with the mail either due to addresses being wrong, and some invites never came back to the return address, they are in neverland. A bunch of people also were missing them. Some recieved empty envelopes.

    Fun isn’t it?! 🙂

All of our invitations pretty much made it OK (except for those guests who had given us the wrong address – but obviously not the post office’s fault). We did have a few bumps with our RSVP postcards, and one was almost completely destroyed on its way back to us. Chunks of it were missing, and someone had clearly taped it back together. They even put it in a plastic baggy before they delivered it! Crazy!

So far so good.  I just mailed out our invitations on Monday and have already gotten 3 RSVP postcards back in the mail (and positive comments from several people who have received the invitations) so I think things went smoothly with the post office.

I do calligraphy and you’ll have to believe me when I tell you that the calligraphy I did for my own wedding was C-R-A-Z-Y. Like, you could read it, but…think Betsy Dunlap, if you know her:

so I guess I should be happy that everyone received theirs without a hitch! (RSVP cards had a printed return address, so no problem there).

BUT, with my MIL’s, they took a black marker and blocked out the zip-code and then, usign the same thick shipping marker, wrote it in on the side…?? And I promise you, out of all the things on that envelope, the zip code WAS legible. I have no idea why they did that but it really looked crappy (and my Mother-In-Law wanted to frame it, so I had to make her a new one). No idea if that happened to everyone’s, but then again, to worry about the look of the envelope is kinda silly–guests are going to throw it away anyway.

And it was such a thick invite that it ended up costing me postage for a “parcel” which is much more than a “letter.” But that’s MY fault.

I see you’re in Canada, so I can tell you that Canada Post was awesome!  Firstly, we had personalized stamps printed through them (with our faces on them, they were a HUGE hit).  Secondly, we didn’t ask for anything to be “hand cancelled” or anything AND not a single stamp even GOT cancelled!  Maybe they don’t cancel personalized stamps, who knows, but it was awesome because everyone got to see our stamp (though there was also one on the RSVP envelope inside).  Most people got their invites either the next day or 2 days after I sent them out and I don’t think any RSVPs got lost in the mail either.  All in all, I am very happy with Canada Post!
