Yesterday, I started my job as a bridal stylist. My first day went really well, I love my co-workers, and all the brides and bridesmaids I worked with were very polite.
However, while talking to a bride about her experiance the day before at David’s Bridal, she mentioned how shocked she was at the way some of the brides were speaking to the consultants. She said that some of these women were just plain rude.
Luckily, I haven’t had to deal with this yet, but I’m sure I will at some point.
So, here are some reasons why you should be nice to your bridal consultant:
1. We are on our feet ALL. DAY.
We are running around the store, carrying heavy dresses (Seriously. They’re heavy. I can only handle like 2 at a time), running to the back to get you a bra, answering phone calls, trying to help walk-in customers so we can hopefully get them an appointment and get them to come back, dealing with your annoying sister/mother/best friend/child….. sometimes all at the same time.
2. We want you to find a dress you’ll love. Yes, we also want to make a sale, but more importantly we want you to be confident in your purchase.
3. Most of us genuinely care about helping you. We’re in a customer service business for a reason- usually because we like people and like helping people. It’s much easier to be nice to you when you are nice to us.
4. If you are nice to your consultant, she’s going to be excited to work with you again when you come back for fittings/bridesmaids/whatever. Don’t you want your consultant to be happy to see you?
I’m sure I’ll think of more of these as time goes on that I can add… if anybody else has stories they want to contribute, feel free 🙂
