@Bridey77: Sounds like my sister. She has a Double Ba. degree and a pilot’s liscense. I have an associates. Sometimes I think she has life on a golden platter but I have kids and she doesn’t. While she is free to spend money on her education I enjoy my kids. I wouldn’t have it any other way. We are still both happy.
I’ll check out Ecclesiastes.

You are not awful and such feelings are natural. But think of it this way – if she was not getting married, would you be feeling less than satisfied with your wedding plans? There will always be people who can afford to spend much more on things like weddings, houses, clothes etc. And there are many more people who go to bed hungry, can not find a job or may not even have a place to call home.
Our wedding is a simple one and will cost 5K for the wedding, reception and the day-after pig roast. It will be simple, yet unique. FOCUS on your own wedding preparations and STOP comparing yourself to others. Be thankful for the blessings you have.
And my Mother would have added – Fine feathers don’t make fine birds.

I am dealing with the same thing with both my brother and his fiancee and my FI’s sister. Bro and Future Sister-In-Law are having a huge lavish wedding at this huge hotel and we are having a small house wedding. FI’s sister just found out she is prego and has this huge rock, buying a new house and they’re planning a huge wedding as well. I have my days where I feel like me and Fiance have just been left out in the dust to fend for ourselves while everyone runs along with their lives.
BUT I also am ALWAYS 100% in love with our lives 🙂 We live frugal (wedding too) so we can be debt free. We do not play Keeping Up With The Jonses so we honestly turn our backs on the drama that goes with it, just smile and say “Well thats nice” when we gotta hear about everyone lavish whatever.
Learned a HUGE life lesson from this: in the past 6 months I have had 3 instances where I am listening to someone dwell one their woes and they say “I wish I had your life” YEAH. I bet you do 🙂
Keep your head up. Things look fab on the outside, but when the day comes, you won’t want your wedding any other way,
