I have been married for almost 9 years however I have not legally been able to change my name on my social security card. My mairraige has no registration number on it. Does anyone know if I am even legally married and what I can do to go about fixing this???
Thanks so much!!

You need to call the county you were married in and ask them. Also, what do you mean by Mairraige? Marriage certificate? Did you get a lic. from the county? Did your officiant sign it and turn it in? I think we need a few more details.

I’m sorry….my marraige certificate has no registration number. We did everything correctly as far as I know. We just didn’t get a regitration number on the certificate. We got married in Oregon and now live in Virginia. I tried to get this all sorted out befrore we moved here but nobody seemed to know what I should do at the courthouse where we got the license.

did you get a copy of your marriage license from the town you got married in? where i live you have to buy it after you get married.
why don’t you send a certified letter to the department of records in the town you got married in asking them for a written response as to your marriage certificate and why there is no number on it? i know doing things by mail is a bigger pain than picking up the phone, but it usually gets into the proper hands when you write a letter. and you have a record of your efforts.
also, do you have an attorney friend who can help you? things tend to get done a lot quicker when an attorney sends a letter.

We got a copy from the town we got our license in. We got married in a different town and county from where we got our license. Unfortunately no attorney friend to help that is why I figured I would ask around before spending the money to hire one.
