Are you talking about going to the courthouse? If so, a wedding certificate is anywhere from $100-$300, I think.

Or are you talking about going somewhere?

Do you have a friend that would be willing to marry you at your house?  You can go online and get a ministers license for free and then all it will cost is your wedding license fee.

@SunshineCarter: Definitely a JOP. All you’ll need is to get the certificate and then rings and you’re good to go.

@SunshineCarter: Sorry. JOP = Justice of the Peace. Basically you go to your local courthouse. As far as the certificate/license thing, I’m not sure. That’s not something I’ve done yet. Hopefully someone else can jump in and let you know, or I’m sure the courthouse’s website would have info.

You can usually just call the courthouse in your city and ask the process. Usually you just make an apt., pay, fill out paperwork, and the judge will marry you. You may need witnesses depending on your state.

@SunshineCarter: Not a problem. Hope all goes well. I do think there is a wait time for the license, so I’d check into it before the day you are thinking.

Here’s a link to West Virginia specific regulations and licensing information.

Basically, you’ll need $36, there’s a 3 day wait between getting the license and being able to marry, you may need a birth cert. to prove you’re over 18, and if either is divorced, you should have your divorce decree as well.

@SunshineCarter:most states have a website where u can find marriage license costs and requirements.  some states require a blood test.

when u go to buy ur marriage license ask them who can marry u.   This is what we did. They gave me the name of a county commissioner that married us. we didn’t even have to have a witness. he charged us $50.
