I’m new here and have been researching moissanite stones and have decided to get one as my engagagement ring 🙂 This forum has been soo helpful.
I viewed the stones here in Ireland but the mark up on the complete rings is crazy here as they aren’t as popular and not sold by many jewellers so I am considering buying from Moissanite co.
I have narrowed it down to a rose gold two tone solitaire, 1.25 (7mm) with 6 prongs. Not sure if i’ll go 18k or 14k as we only have 18k here in ireland so can’t see the 14k in real life. Roughly 2mm band slightly tapered perhaps and a standard to low setting.
I originally looked at 4 prongs but maybe it was the size of the stone/the setting but they looked quite square which I didn’t like personally.
Also I am finding it hard to find settings with subtle /delicate prongs that basically you can’t see at all and blend into the stone.
Are these a specific customization that isnt that popular? I found the ones I tried on made the stone look spiky.
I’ll attach picture of one I saw online to give an idea of the style prongs i’m looking for.
I’d really appreciate any help or advice?! If anyone can recommend that type style from moissanite co or somewhere else.
These are all things that you can communicate to a jeweler. Are you looking only for pre-made settings? A custom setting won’t cost you much more and will offer you peace of mind because you can literally do whatever you want.
You also should steer clear of big name jewelers and get any custom work done by a small, mom-and-pop-shop, type jeweler. Hope this helps 🙂
They can do customisations so if you email them and told them what you want I’m sure they could round the prongs or something to make them look less obvious, although I don’t really notice them anyway (maybe a bigger stone would help?).
I had a great experience with them (I know not everyone does) and even allowing for import duty and VAT it ould’ve come in at around £800 cheaper than getting it over here in the UK and the setting was just what I was after.
Jillyb33 : I see. Well the prongs in the bottom picture are called claw prongs. In the top picture, they look round but they’re soooooo tiny! I’ve actually never seen prings that small on any ring. It may have been just an effect they created in the photo.
Sorry if these pictures are giant, but I just got this OEC (looks like maybe transitional cut though? I’m no expert.) moissanite ring off of Ebay (seller is Carob Jewels) a couple of days ago and I love it! He made me an 8 mm in 10k rose gold for $300.00! So though not as cheap as other India moissanite sellers, I do feel like the quality is really nice. I’m sure you could ask for the prongs to be made to your liking. I got the ring very quickly and I’m excited to have a solitaire to wear when I’m not in the mood for all the bling on my halo engagement ring. I would highly recommend the shop! 🙂
I am also waiting for a ring from Fire and Brilliance, my order experience with them so far has been wonderful, they strive on customer service and has been very responsive to my messages. … This might be something you’re looking for:
mcmuffintop81 : ooh thanks so much. That’s lovely and does look like what i’m looking for 🙂 I haven’t dealt with them before so will check them out 🙂
2003bluecat : Oooh that ring is absolutely beautiful. I love the setting. I’d say she’ll be thrilled with it…I definetly would 🙂 Did you get any customisations or is it the same as on their instagram page?
