Hi Bees –
We went to pick up my platinum 6-prong solitaire on Saturday at the store where it is being custom made (with an heirloom stone). The head was slightly off-set, so the prongs stuck out further on one side than the other and from the top, you could see there was more mass of stone on one side of the band.
The store just called and said their jeweler will be doing the repair by re-soldering the prong instead of re-casting the entire ring. IS THIS OKAY?? I am reading online that you can burn the stone if you solder too close to it. We absolutely don’t want a cheap solution and are worried soldering is just a quick-fix when they should be recasting it with the head centered. Please help!!!
It’s not pave or anything, just plain platinum with plain prongs.
Thanks!
