I just got married in Long Island and used Tim & Vivian from Timecut Photography.  LOVED our photos from both the engagement shoot and wedding.  They were fun, candid, natural and really portrayed the whole day in pictures.  Check out their website for more info – http://www.timecut.com.  My friends and family raved about how great our photog was!

@isabelhona: Just wanted to chime in as well. I am also using Tim and Vivian and we absolutely love them. We have had our engagement photos taken (everyone LOVED them) but he is also doing some other work for us. I highly recommend using Tim Wong.

Just to respond about one of the recommendations —

Kristina Hill: My future sister in law used her and she is terrible post wedding. Once she has the money she basically stops all communication and takes forever to show u even 1 photo preview of your wedding. I’d look elsewhere.

We are getting married at the manor in west orange. Where are you looking? I remember Mayfair Farms was open on that date.

We are having our reception at Lakewood Country Club. It’s about 100 pp and that includes tax and gratuity. Very Nice Venue. Food tasting was great. Our photographer/videographer is http://www.HarveyVideoPhoto.com 6843 Route 9 north Howell, NJ 07731 732-363-2442 and our DJ is Jason from Untouchable entertainment, http://www.djs4u.com 165 Route 37 E, #B, Toms River, NJ 08753, 732-240-7300.  We chose them both because they worked together out of the same office in Toms River, NJ and we felt comfortable they would know how the other operates and would work well together, but recently Harvey moved out to a separate office in Howell, NJ so we’re hoping things are still ok with them. Have to call them both. But they are both great and the prices are great. They don’t over sell you. I also have a flower shop that I have to check out myself.  They advertise $295 for brides bouquet, 2 bridesmaids, groom, 2 groomsmen, 2 mothers, 2 fathers. I think all that.but I don’t have the info yet and haven’t met with them. But I will let you know when I do.

We were on a very tight budget and ended up using Yana with NYheaven Photo. I have mixed feelings about the experience. On one end, she was really flexible in working with us on a really low budget–it probably helped that we booked last minute so she dropped her rates down lower than normal and we ended up getting 4 hours plus a CD of all edited images (she took over 1000) for $350. I will say that my experience of her up until the wedding was a little rocky. It sometimes took her a couple of days to respond to emails and our first time trying to skype and meet her “in person” ended up in finally meeting/starting about 30 minutes later than planned. I had problems getting in touch with her during this time and while it could be a coincidence, we finally did by calling on DH’s phone. So not the greatest first impression so I’ll admit I was skeptical from the beginning and really worried she’d be late the day of.

However, my experience of her that day was very different. She was very professional, showed up right on time, and seemed to be very  organized and efficient. My physical experience or impression was that the day felt a little forced. There were a couple of times where I’ll outright say I felt uncomfortable and had no idea why she was telling me to do the things that she did. Afterward, I was nervous because I hadn’t heard anything from her in 2 weeks. I finally talked to her and she said she would have them by next Friday–just under a week. When I finally got them, I was surprised. I actually thought they turned out great overall. My Darling Husband and I were very pleased. She really knew how to capture everyone’s best angles and she did some great things with some of the pictures. And those times I felt really uncomfortable didn’t look it at all. In fact some of them fall under some of my favorite shots.

She had also asked me just prior to the wedding if I would be interested in having a second photographer come and shoot our wedding with no obligations. He shot in a different style from her. It was just $100 extra if we decided we wanted his images. He took significantly less (just under 400), but I felt that while Yana had captured the “pretty” pictures, he captured the true emotion in them. I cried when I flipped through them. The two as a pair work very well together and for $450, 2 photographers, copyright released cd/website download, and unlimited number of images, it was perfect for us. We got both the practical shots that made me feel beautiful as well as some of the emotional ones that really told a story of our experience. And I couldn’t be happier. Yana is not always the greatest at communicating with you (at least this was my experience with her), but she is a good photographer. If you can hire both together, I would definitely recommend them.
