Listen to everyone here, and when you feel this “im afraid I will always compare people to him ” remember to compare his selfishness , his inabilty with intimacy etc etc, not just the rose tinted bits .

This too will pass OP, we have all been where you are to some degree or other.

Do you have a therapist?

A good therapist will be concerned with your well-being and helping you to learn to cope with your anxiety and OCD. Focus on finding a professional who can help you. A psychiatrist can prescribe medication to assist while you are developing coping strategies.

Don’t underestimate the value of exercise–as a distraction, for the endorphins and to help you sleep better. You can do this.

I also think you should get a therapist. Pills are not cure-alls for mental health problems. You are choosing to be happy, remember that.

Can you go away for a bit? I had a really tough breakup and I somewhat impulsively booked a solo trip to Africa and didn’t use the internet/phone (other than a daily ‘I haven’t been eaten by a lion’ call to my parents) for 2 weeks. It was exactly what was needed. Granted it worked out that I was between graduation and my job so I had the time, but maybe leave your phone at home and go away for a day or two? Bring some books, get a massage?

Stay strong bee, we have all been there and it feels horrible. OTC sleeping pills are a godsend.

Only you know if it would be right to attempt a reconciliation, or maybe no one knows. Sometimes a break acts to get one or both parties get their act together, other times after the initial happiness rush passes, you realise you were right to break up.

There is no right answer really. Either you will get back together and have the unsatisfactory relationship you have now. Or you will stay apart and you will be sad for a while, maybe a long time and you might always miss him a little. This sounds depressing, sorry. But I just mean don’t be afraid of making the wrong decision, cause there isn’t one. Every thing in life has some good and some bad.
