Hi bees, I’m about to order my dress, DB T9612. The one I tried on in stores is ivory lace over a champagne underskirt. I really liked it, since it seemed to make the lace pop. You can also order the gown in ivory lace on ivory. The first photo is my dress (ivory/champagne), and the second photo is a different dress (ivory/ivory). The store has such horrible carpet and fluorescent lighting that I’m afraid the photos don’t even show the difference. I’ve also included a close up of the ivory/champagne, but of course it only looks like that if you go really close to it. I am Asian, with medium skin that is more yellow than pink, and usually earth tones look good on me (dark green, shades of tan, brown, navy – not red/purple). My mom thinks the champagne is too different. Any ideas?

xtals: I’m biased cuz I chose a dress with off-white lace over a contrast underlay…but I love the ivory-on-champagne! I understand your mom’s worry that it’s less traditional…but most dresses I see with this kind of contrast still photograph as white and “bridal.” It’s just a matter of how much the lace pops in person. I say if you love the detail in the lace and want to show it off, go with champagne 🙂

xtals: Did the store have a window you could stand close to? I don’t know what it is with horrible fluorescent lighting – I went to several stores which had it and I could not tell what color dress I was wearing. Finally I found a store with a huge front window so I could actually see the color of the dress, and tell how it photographed.
From the photos above, I think the ivory over champagne gives a nice depth to the lace. The ivory on ivory is very bridal and traditional. What is your venue? What sort of look are you going for?
