I have a solitaire round and love it. It’s a little under 2 cts and do wish maybe, I’d gone a little smaller sometimes because there is something endearing about simple ring and they are more modest and practical. Regardless, the longer I’ve worn my e-ring, the more I fall in love it. But I’ve also realized I didn’t have to go as big as my budget allowed.
PS. Be careful with fancy shapes with lower color grades. The yellow is significantly more apparent, especially if it is being set in a halo or with pave stones. Although, you might like the warmth! Just a suggestion I heard from quite a few jewelers when I was shopping around 🙂
At the end of the day, go with your gut!

I vote no halo! I love the classic look of just the oval stone. I’m also biased because that is what I have ☺️

Are you looking for a round or oval? A 2 carat round will be 5 mm or so tall. The settings you’ve posted also set the stone pretty high. So, just be sure you willl be comfortable wearing such a setting. Ovals can be less tall, there is no firm standard depth for ovals.
Selecting a nice diamond is much trickier that just getting GIAXXX and much more so with ovals. You might want to post for help over on Pricescope RockyTalky. If you want a shortcut to either, you can get a super-ideal round from Whiteflash, BrianGavin (Select), GoodOldGold (Ascendancy), or HighPerformanceDiamonds (CBI). For ovals, AugustVintageInc. just released an ideal oval (the only one in the world!).

I love #1! Of course everyone has their opinion on halos, and if you like halos then go for it. If you are on the fence, though, I would say that you might like the simpler stone better in ten years. I upgraded recently and changed to a completely different ring for comfort reasons (fingers swelling after pregnancy), and at 37 I chose a much simpler setting with fewer stones than what I liked at 27. I have no idea if it’s normal to prefer simpler settings as you get older, just sharing my own experience.

twofish : most of the time people get halos to have the appearance of a larger/more expensive diamond. If she can afford that, why not just get the bigger diamond.

My opinion is a little biased just because my ring looks like option 1. Butttttt definitely go with option 1, lol. I feel like halos just take away from the stone, solitaire stones have a more elegant and classic look!
Plus the stones underneath in the setting give it a really beautiful touch!! Love love love option 1!!

I love the solitaire! I actually don’t mind the halo you posted, but those prongs look huge – all I would see when I looked down would be metal. Love the claw prongs in #1 though.

I think it depends on your personal style.
Personally I voted for option 1 since a halo would make a ring far too busy for me, but it may be right for you. If you’re not sure then I agree with the suggestion that you go try on a halo vs a solitaire and see which feels right!
