We just booked an amazing photographer for our wedding. Initially, I told Fiance that I wanted to book a videographer as well (costing around 2500). He told me that he thinks it’s a waste of money but if I really wanted a video then we could get it. I then thought it over and started to think about how I NEVER have looked at anything that I’ve ever put on video in the past. I’m just not one of those people to sit around and watch a video of myself. Even with pictures I’m that way–but I know I will ALWAYS look at our wedding photos. Also, both Fiance and I are shy people so I can’t really seeing the video being that appealing to us. But at the same time I wonder if I’ll regret not having a video….so I’m now consider it again!
While I agree that $2000 is too much for a video that we may look at once in a blue moon, I’m considering possibly finding a very reasonably priced videographer (like $500)–but then that begs the queststion of whether the video will even be nice?
Any advice on what we should do here?

I’d shop around and see what’s the average in your area. Can your photographer recommend anyone?

My sister got a video for her wedding and I LOVE IT. I thought it would be awkward too, but you get so busy and it goes by so fast that you forget they are even there!
I’m just sad it is out of our budget 🙁

For my 1st wedding we found a family member that had an actual camcorder & he videoed the whole thing for us. Rehearsal, Wedding, & reception.

If you really want one, then shop around for different prices, as you might regret it in the long run.
Personally, I do not feel comfortable around cameras so I will be choosing of not having one for the simple reason that I do not want someone running after me for the whole evening. I will definately get photos but !

I did some shopping for our videographer and ended up with an amazing set up for about $1500. There were 4 people taking video for 7 hours, and I get all of the footage plus a recap video set to a song of our choice. They were a HUGE production; I mean they had a boom and everything, but I didn’t even notice they were there unless they were asking for something specific. I say do it. You can’t ever go back and get a video, but you can definitely put your dress back on and take pictures.
ETA: You get what you pay for with videography. Don’t be afraid to pay more if they have amazing videos that you love. I could’ve paid less but I HATED the way the others did their footage, it was cheesy and just awful. I was fine with paying more for a higher quality video.

We weren’t going to have one and at the last min, like a week before the wedding, had one come. Best decision ever. I love love love our video, and it’s only a highlight video, but it’s amazing. It captures a different kind of emotion from the day that the pictures do not. I think if you can swing it price wise you should go for it!

Also I didn’t notice our videographers the whole day. While watching the video I kept thinking, I didn’t even see them filming this! Where were they?? I guess it depends on the person though as well and if they are professional enough to stay out of the bride and grooms face.

If you can afford it, I say go with it. I wasn’t hyped up over video, UNTIL we visited a videographer’s studio and he showed us wedding videos he had done, and they captured all the emotions so marvellously i was SOLD! We managed to get eng shoot, two photographers and one videographer for the day, plus a “how we met, etc” vid to play at the reception in one package for just under 2000. Not bad IMO

You should definitely get a videographer. Every person I’ve asked that didn’t have a videographer said that it was their biggest wedding regret!
We got ours for $550 because our photographer employs a videographer, so he gave us half off video for booking him. From what I saw online in my area, they start out at around $600 but that would be ceremony only. And we are in TN not CA so I’m sure it’s going to be more for you.
But bottom line, you should base your choice on their work like you would a photographer because like photography, this will be something thing you will have forever and probably watch often!
