The dress selection process was not the greatest for me and the circumstances under which I selected and purchased my dress did not leave me with happy feelings. Since I purchased my dress I’ve had serious doubts and regrets – too many nights have been spent crying or tossing and turning over this silly dress.
Standing at the salon, in front of the mirror, I love the dress; however, when I look at pictures of me in the dress, I feel like I look overwhelmed by the dress in its current state. All I see is the dress – not me. Also, in my everyday life, I’m pretty plain-jane… So there is a lot going on for ‘every-day’ me.
So I met with the salon’s seamstress last night and discussed options. Here is what we came up with:
1) leave the dress as it is, its lovely and I’m just over-reacting
2) take the straps off
Now I need your help – I’m in too deep, I’m afraid that I can’t see the reality of the situation because of my ‘bad dress buying experience’ and like most, I’m my own worst critic. I need some practical and honest opinions. Oh and the pictures are only from the waist up, the bottom is a full tulle skirt.
Option 1: With Straps
Option 2: Without Straps

Question: Has the dress got enough boning in it for it to stay up without straps?
Also, do you have any full-length photos of you in the dress? I’d like to see them before deciding.

@MsNewton: You look fantastic in both pictures, but if you are feeling overwhelmed by the dress- go for the strapless option for sure!

First off: That dress is GORGEOUS!
Second: Make it detachable, and wear it for the ceremony/pictures and take it off for the reception!

What are you planning on doing with your hair, make up, veil, and jewelry? I think that will determine, for me, whether it would look better with or without. Its a gorgeous dress!

Can you do both? are the straps detachable? straps for ceremony and without for reception?
The dress is gorgeous, By The Way.

Without straps looks more youthful imo, but there are alot of other factors to consider!! hair, beliefs, venue etc etc etc. the idea of making the dress dual purpose is a great idea 🙂

Strapless vote from me! It opens it all up and I look at your face first and then notice that your dress is beautiful. Strapless would allow you to wear a veil and jewelery without being overwhelmed by ‘stuff’. I don’t think you should have dress regret, it’s gorgeous! I’d love to see a full length picture.

I think most of the salon dress pics highlight the dress and not the person. its much different on the big day when you have hair, makeup and accessories.
that said, I like the dress both ways and can also imagine putting a smaller, more delicate lace strap on it if you are feeling swallowed up by those. But I also want to reiterate that was not my thought when I saw the pic. You just gotta feel great!

I voted with straps, but I’m a straps kind of gal. Either way, that dress looks amazing on you!

I personally prefer it without the straps as my eye immediately goes to your face. With the straps, I’m more drawn to look at the busy pattern instead of you. It’s a gorgeous dress either way though!

You’ve chosen a beautiful dress! I like it without the straps as it allows you to be the focal point.

That dress is beautiful, I feel like it does have a lot going on with the straps but looks absolutely gorgeous on you without the straps. I definitely vote no straps.
